BajaNomad

Needing some of that good 'ol Nomad's assistance!

Debra - 4-30-2007 at 01:19 PM

The Sammy Diaz couldn't find the part I need in Ensenada for my 4Runner, I think he had someone else look for him and didn't convey the info. to him that was need.

If anyone coming to the book signing would be willing and able to pick-up a couple of parts for me, please U2 me for the needed info. we are headed up Thursday morning, so if anyone can, let me know, I will be forever greatful...(and yes, drinks of your choise is in the offering!) Thanks in advance.

bajaguy - 4-30-2007 at 01:39 PM

We will be at the signing, what parts do you need???

[Edited on 4-30-2007 by bajaguy]

Packoderm - 4-30-2007 at 01:55 PM

Oh oh, parts aren't available in Baja for the super versatile Toyota. This bodes ill for the Toyota/Baja legend.

Debra, it is not my intention to make light of your predicament, and I hope that your issue is quickly resolved. It's just that I thought that just about all Toyota parts were widely available in Baja.

fishbuck - 4-30-2007 at 02:17 PM

I'm leaving for Ensenada Tuesday morning. I could stop buy the Toyo dealer and get your stuff if you'd like.
My U2U isn't working right but email me if you want.
Fishbuck@webtv.net

Funny, a Ford rescueing a Toyota.

Baja_Girl - 4-30-2007 at 02:25 PM

Uh-oh, I've been trying to decide Ford v. Toyota, and so I'm glad I stumbled into this blog...

Fishbuck: I tried to U2U you - but maybe you didn't get my note of gratitude - that was so awesome and sweet of you to look into a truck for me. I am going to start doing some legwork this weekend, maybe even hitch a ride to the May 5 event...

So, uh, maybe its Ford after all? If I get stuck before getting to Loreto, its not going to be pretty - once in Loreto, I hope I do get stuck. For about a month, in fact...maybe I should get the Toyota???

bajaguy - 4-30-2007 at 02:28 PM

OK, OK.......it's probably just some minor thing like a license plate bolt........:lol:

Baja-Girl....my money is still with Toyota!!!!!!

See you at the book signing!!!!

Baja_Girl - 4-30-2007 at 02:50 PM

...lots of mechanics have told me that there is usually nothing wrong with my car except a loose nut behind the wheel....

Packy, even more astounding is the fact that this is apparently the first recorded instance of ANY Toyota ever having ANY problem ANYWHERE on the peninsula.

Well, at least if you listen to some.............

Baja_girl, in your pricerange, I would go 1/2 ton Ford or Chevy from the mid 90s. Probably less reliable than the Toys but so much more comfortable in the cab and so much more carrying capacity. I love 8 foot beds......uh, in trucks that is.

BajaWarrior - 4-30-2007 at 05:04 PM

Debra,

If Fishbuck can't get the parts in his part of town, maybe I can get them in San Diego where I live. We're coming to the book signing this weekend.

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 05:16 PM

DAng, Debra, hows that for service.

Bajawarrior/Chuck, you need to have a beer with my man Bajaguy/Terry at the book signing. You guys will hit it off.

Also, Chuck. Had the boat out for the first time yesterday. Motor runs great, had a few small, but perplexing problems. I thought it would be underpowered with how deep the V is on the hull, but that bad boy cruises at 30mph. Thanks again, we love it.

bajalou - 4-30-2007 at 05:34 PM

One thing about parts from a dealer, I know that if Dodge didn't sell the vehicle in Mexico, the unique parts are not available thru the dealers. (V10 for example)

Don't know if this applies to Ford, Chevs, and Toyota's as well, but something to think about with the newer vehicles.

TMW - 4-30-2007 at 06:31 PM

Some parts you probably wouldn't want to buy from a dealer. My 91 chevy headlight is almost $400 new from the dealer. The hardware on it is not available separate, you buy the whole thing. After market headlight $95.

Bedman - 4-30-2007 at 06:53 PM

Debra, Did Sammy say what the problem was? Fuel Pump?

Bedman

??????

bajaguy - 4-30-2007 at 07:26 PM

OK, so what is this mystery part?????

Minnow - 4-30-2007 at 07:32 PM

IMHO

#1 most recycled engine parts in MX. Chevy 350

#2Nissan anything. Still plenty of Datsun B-210's driving around

#3 toyota 22R. They recycle the old ones

#4 ford 351. The high outputs were good, but didn't last long. Were those the windsor, or the cleveland?

Packoderm - 4-30-2007 at 09:36 PM

The truth is, I always thought that Toyota parts would be more widely available in Baja than other brands - at least for the parts you absolutely need to get running again. I thought that would be the case because Toyotas are so popular down there. I'm interested in hearing what part is needed.

FrankO - 4-30-2007 at 10:08 PM

A wee little birdy told me it was the cigarette lighter;)

Tom,

Glad to hear the good news about the boat, I told ya, it's a good motor and I'm glad for you that you got her running well. It sounds like you have it back home?

Read your post about being pulled over in Ensenada for a tail light infraction (ha! which we knew could happen) funny stuff!

Talk to ya soon,

Chuck

Bob and Susan - 5-1-2007 at 05:12 AM

tom...pictures of the boat in action????

Debra - 5-1-2007 at 11:08 AM

Frank O: the only thing I use the cig. lighter for is to recharge my cell phone or for Brendan's "GameBoy, or Video player"

What I need is a relay switch for a fuel pump also (if not over a hundred bucks) a relay switch for a cruise control. That can wait until I get home if too expencive..............

Anyway........details

Generally, no return on electrical parts at most places.

Two relays went out in a relatively short time period? Something else is not right.

David K - 5-1-2007 at 04:54 PM

Okay, I would hope that it would be in a sealed package so it was obvious if it wasn't used.

Bajaguy,

Debra - 5-2-2007 at 10:54 AM

Yes, David.........Thank you (and everyone) "Bajaguy" is bringing what I need, I think "Mean O" sent him to my rescue (JUST KIDDING TOM!) :o :P..............

Hook: it wasn't both relays that went, but I thought I get them both taken care of at the sametime, thanks for bringing that up though! I learn sooooooooo much from just "leaning over shoulders!" Thanks!

ALERT ALERT ALERT

bajaguy - 5-2-2007 at 01:23 PM

Debra y David K

Checked with three Toyoa dealers (2 in Las Vegas and 1 in Carson City)

Fuel pump relay switch (not the technical name, but they know what it is) is a 1 - 2 day order item, cost is $85-$95......suggest that someone in San Diego order this afternoon (Wednesday) for pick up on Friday afternoon.

Cruise control relay switch is another story. 2 of the 3 parts depts mumbled something about windshield washer/wiper - turn signal - cruise control being one unit/part....needed VIN, which I now have (T2AVN39WEN0075617). DIDN'T even ask what the price of that puppy was.........

Somebody in San Diego needs to step up!!!!!!

See y'all at the book signing....with the part!!!!

BajaWarrior - 5-2-2007 at 03:17 PM

DEBRA DEBRA DEBRA

BajaWarrior here. Is the part you need a EFI relay? That is what the parts department is calling it. If it is indeed a EFI relay we're looking for then we are in luck cause the Toy. dealer by my house has it for $44 +tax but it is not returnable so we need to make sure. Do you have the old one out yet? There should be numbers on it.

Okay, this is all Debra posted...
==============================================
Anyway........details

1992 4Runner 4x4
6cy.
3.0 engine
automatic

(and the VIN with BajaGuy's post: T2AVN39WEN0075617)

================================================
So, with what BajaWarrior is saying:
Did they have EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) on that year's engine?

Please respond Debra and others on how we can assist...

BajaWarrior - 5-2-2007 at 06:23 PM

No, I'm certain it's an EFI model. It's just that she requested a and I quote: "a relay switch for a fuel pump". The part I found that is remotely close to that is an EFI relay. Just wanted to get some verification from her and possibly the number that is listed on the part on her vehicle. With that number it can be positively identified. I want to get the correct part and help her out.

So, I'm putting a Debra alert out there. If your in the BOLA area, hop on your quad or buggy and go wake up Debra from her afternoon siesta!

Debra - 5-2-2007 at 07:11 PM

BajaWarrior....it does have a fuel pump........(Sammy replaced that, so I know for sure)..........BajaGuy, if you could, just bring that relay for the fuel pump down for me, I'll deal with the cruise control when I get home. Thanks! Hugs, guys! you always help me out!

BTW, BajaGuy, you will find me. I'm the REALY tall gal (5'10') dark hair 30 something, (really 52 )........and you still haven't told me which flavor of cervasa you prefer!? Hugs, for all! Debra

Deborah

bajaguy - 5-2-2007 at 07:26 PM

Pacifico........BUT

I can't get the part ordered and to you in time.........someone in SD needs to do it tommorow ASAP......or maybe bajawarrior has the solution.....Don't know......we probably need to get a part number off of the old part as stated above.

or....you could get both parts.......at least one MIGHT work!!!

Sorry I struck out:?::?::?:

BajaWarrior - 5-2-2007 at 07:28 PM

Just heard from Bajaguy, he does not have the part, it had to be ordered and he is at the airport right now heading south.

Debra, can you get me the numbers off of the part?

Read the last post from Bajaguy.

Call me with info please and I'll do what I can.

Debra - 5-2-2007 at 07:47 PM

I can't call, I'm in Bahia.........what part number do you need? I have the old fuel pump

Debra - 5-2-2007 at 08:02 PM

Ojkay, I give up! I just went and found the old pump, paperwork included, and I can't find any number that makes sence! so.........BajaWarrior, if you find what you think I need I'll pay you for it. otherwise, I just deal with it when I get back to Seattle! Thank you all

Ya, its not the number on the fuel pump or the paperwork for the fuel pump but I could use the number on the RELAY your trying to replace. It's what the parts guy at Toyota asked for.

bajaguy - 5-3-2007 at 06:33 AM

gotta be a number somewhere. Maybe stamped on the part, or on a tag attached to the part.......or not..:?::!::?:

BajaWarrior - 5-3-2007 at 09:10 AM

Just came from Mossy Toyota in Mission Bay. They have two possibilities when I gave them the VIN # from Debra's Toyota.

Under the hood.
Or inside the dash on right side.

They have both in stock, just let me know this new information and it's a done deal. Will check back at 3pm today unless someone wants to call me with her response saving me a trip home to check email. DavidK?

Chuck 619-823-8563

Anyone monitoring this post that see's Debra holler at her please!

I'm close to getting this done.

David K - 5-3-2007 at 09:19 AM

Chuck, I emailed Debra and it bounced back, so I u2u'd her (of course she will already be on Nomad to see that).

I just now emailed Mary Ann Humfreville (with whom Debra will be riding to the book signing with) and asked her to have Debra get on Nomad or call you from the town's satellite phone.

Perhaps Debra will see all this any minute now?

I am off now to do some irrigation work for Pyramid weekend beer money!...

David

BajaWarrior - 5-3-2007 at 09:25 AM

Thanks David, all she has to do is post her answer and maybe someone could just call on cell phone with the answer and I'll get 'er done.

BajaWarrior - 5-3-2007 at 03:57 PM

Went with the under the hood one, parts guy says they sell those mostly.

David K - 5-3-2007 at 04:35 PM

As of 4 pm, no emails back from Debra or Mary Ann, and neither has looked here... Looks like you have gone above and beyond Chuck in helping a Nomad and her Toyota!

See everybody on Saturday!

Cypress - 5-3-2007 at 05:01 PM

Aren't those fuel pumps inside the gas tank?:?:

David K - 5-3-2007 at 05:04 PM

She needs a relay, not the pump... at least that's what she first said. Not sure why she responded about no clear numbers on the old pump???
