I'm excited. I'm leaving in Tuesday morning for Ensenada and San Quintin. If I do it right I'll get as far as El Rosario and stay a night at Baja Cactus.
I'll drop my freshly issue FM3 on my way through to get it registered which is the point of the trip.
I'll try to stop in TJ and buy a cheap cellphone. My developer lives in TJ and I'll try and call him. He's not answering my emails so I guess I'll just have to try the more direct approach.
I still need to find out about the EIR and grading permit.
Also, I want to stop at the Stewart Title office and chat with them a little.
I'm also going to try and hunt down a bulldozer in either Ensenada or SQ.
If it works out right I'll stop at the Pyramind for the book signing on Sat.
I'll try to hunt down internet access at each stop so I can check in.
Yep, I'm excited!

There has been a lot of discussion here regarding the trials and tribulations of obtaining the FM-3 from various sources. What experiences did you have in obtaining yours, where did you get it, and what were the requirements.

When you register your FM-3 will you do it yourself or use an "agent"???

Fishbuck,

make sure you get a phone good for all of Baja and not a "town" phone that is only good in Tijuana and surrounding area.

I mistakenly recieved a "town" phone in San Felipe years ago, only worked 30 miles north and 30 miles south of town through BajaCel.

I now have a north america plan through Cingular for my Baja use, 450 anytime minutes for Canada, U.S., and all of Mexico. Uses TelCel and Mexico030 repeaters. No phone cards, and bills in U.S. Works in San Quintin as well. Not sure if this plan is still available, but I know Cingular is still good in Baja.

Thanks also for the info regarding the area your lot is on, we'll definately check it out, and yep, on quads in comfort, we've gone further.... Oh we're not racers, we're in our mid 40's and we can cruise on washboard easily at 30 miles and hour safely. I figure it is a good 35 miles from El Pabellon?

Purchased a Movistar cell for use in the TJ-Ensenada area in December. Turned the phone on today (in Carson City, NV) and received a message welcoming me to the Cingular network. Going to check the Cingular dealer tomorrow and get the details.

I finally answered your U2U! And yes I'm going to use your agent Aida. If I can find internet in Ensenada I'll report back in.
As far as getting my "3" it was easy. My only snag was my local PD clearance letter. When I called to pick it up they said it was mailed to the Consulado. But when I got to the Consulado it wasn't there so I had to drive back to the PD in Costa Mesa and get it. No biggie.

Fishbuck, was the police clearance letter a form letter? We are crossing th e border thursday afternoon, hope to make it to San Quintin by dark. Mulege second day and Los Barriles day 3. Have contacted a lady in Los Barriles who sent a list of things we would need and the police letter was not one of them.

Ya, it's a 5 year local background investigation. Nothing to serious. Go to your local PD front desk and ask. They will know what it is. Fill out a short application. If you do it on Tues you might get it by Thurs.
Maybe it's only a requirement at the Mexican Consulate.
I made it from Loreto to SQ in one day. Alot for one days worth. From Loreto I usually give up at La Paz.

Thanks Fishbuck , I will try to find internet hookup as well to see how your doing. We are building in Los Barriles so I doubt any of the info on permits would be relative in SQ.

We didn't need a tax bill, marriage cert OR police letter for getting FM3 at Consulate in San Diego and then registering in Ensenada.

Correct -- no police letter, etc. needed in Ensenada. They did require a letter (for each of us) from our U.S. bank, apostilled, attesting to the level of monthly deposits in our two separate accounts.

If "Aida" is Aida Topete, she's the same person we use, and is well worth the money. She got our FM3s initially, and does the renewals as well. The whole thing is handled entirely by mail.
