Last Saturday one Riviera pit crew member was killed and another injured while setting up a pit in Nevada. Here's a posting from DesertRacing.Com -
TEAM RIVIERA MEMORIAL AND RELIEF FUND

“It’s a well-known fact that desert racing is inherently a dangerous motor sport. Whether you’re a driver, co-driver or one of the many crew members, desert racing is dangerous. Tragedy struck the Riviera Racing team this morning when two crew members from the Riviera Race team were assembling Pit 5 and while erecting the communication antenna, electricity from a live power line arced, killing one crew member instantly and injuring another standing nearby.” (Published at DesertNewz.com / 4-28-07)

Memorial services for Jeff Shephard will be held Saturday, May 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel of Memories, 12626 Woods Avenue, Norwalk, California 90650.

A relief fund in memory of Jeff Shephard and the injured pit crew member, Raul Navarrette, has been established to assist the families. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to:

This is terrible news. Condolences to the family. Having setup many a live shot for TV and training photogs on how to do it, the number one safety issue is watching overhead power lines.
