Before Junipero Serra arrived in Baja California in 1768 and California in 1769, he worked in a group of missions in the Sierra Gorda region of
Queretaro (1750s). The configuration of these missions is similar to the 16th century central Mexican convents, with an enclosed atrium. The first
photo is Jalpan, located in the small town named Jalpan de Serra.
