mexican airlines

larry - 5-5-2007 at 10:46 AM

Does anyone have experience and/or information regarding low price Mexican airlines aside from Avolar?

I am interested in flying from a Bay Area airport to either Guadalajara or Tepic, but I would consider flying out of Tijuana or Los Angeles.

Online travel services like Travelocity usually do not include smaller carriers (or even bigger ones like Southwest), so if anyone can give me a lead on airlines I might not be familiar with, I would appreciate it.

Try www.larpman.com click on air travel there is a list of all Mexican airlines

Volaris is a new airline flying from Tijuana to many Mexico destingations - TJ to Guadalajara is 749 pesos each way on round trip.

see http://www.volaris.com.mx/

All new equipment I hear - also has a bus from SD transit terminal to TJ airport and return for $30 US.

I've flown Aviacsa and Azteca a couple times out of TJ to Hermosillo. Prices are generally 1/2 or less compared to flights from the US. Aviacsa just started offering e-tickets. Most of the US travel search engines cover them. Another good thing is you can change the return very easy. It takes a 3min phone call to them (no joke) and a $15 fee which sometimes they waive. This gives you a lot of travel flexibility.

Does anyone offer flights from TJ to Mulege???

JZ - 5-6-2007 at 07:06 PM

Hmm, no wonder they weren't coming up on the travel search engines recently.

My friends who have flown Volaris tell me it's superb. They also have a lot of service out of Toluca (near Mexico City)

I just found out Aviacsa offers ticket specials on Tuesdays. It was $40 cheaper per ticket for the tickets I purchased.

I don't think you would save that much after you factor in travel cost from LA or SD to TJ and the extra airline taxes in TJ. I would fly directly from SFO to GDL and avoid the hassle and potential problems in TJ.

I agree tj, with tax, and airport security charges, and the hassel of changing planes and possible airlines, in TJ, might have many potential problems.

JZ - 5-13-2007 at 10:25 AM

What are you guys talking about. Are you trying to scare people for no reason??

Every flight will have aiport taxes, security fees no matter where you fly or which country. If anything they will be less in MX, compared to flying a US carrier to MX.

We just got 5 tickets for $195 r/t for a "direct flight" including all taxes. Same fligt from the US would be $450+ per ticket. That's a savings of $1200.

If he can get a r/t ticket to Guadalajara for $150 that's a pretty good deal.

You misinterpreted my original post. I was not trying to scare the poster or any other member of this board for that matter from going to Tijuana. I was trying to save the person the time, hassle and extra costs of flying to SAN and then traveling all the way to the TJ airport with baggage for a connecting flight.

You did not include the taxes when you originally quoted the $150 round trip price on Volaris and again with your last post. The real cost including taxes would be $193, leaving around the first of June, with the current exchange rate. The cheapest flight that you could possible find from any bay area airport (SFO, OAK or SJC) to SAN would be about $100 RT and cheapest transportation from SAN to TIJ would be about $30 RT (You wouldn't want to fly into LAX because the cost of transportation from the airport to San Diego would outweigh the savings of flying into LAX). So using your suggestion of scheduling two seperate flights the total roundtrip cost would be $323.

I priced the flight from SFO to GDL, leaving around the first of June, before I made my original post and the least expensive flight is not $450+ that you quoted but $324 including taxes on Frontier. Quote on travelocity was $334 but the direct quote from the airline was $10 less.

So to potentially save the poster less than $10 RT are you still going to advise him or her to go through Tijuana?

Now misquote me and tell me that I am wrong.

My question about flights from TJ to Mulege was because I do not have a passport.

I can get to TJ at reasonable cost but I don't really want to waste much more time getting to Mulege.

When my stock goes up (ha ha)) I won't much care, right now it's try to save some money and go now or wait....the he$$ with waiting.

I don't even want a round trip...I have no idea how long I'll feel staying in Mulege.....maybe I'll be an illegal...that seems to be generally acceptable nowadays.:tumble:

Well, I started all this mess and I appreciate those who have volunteered info. Obviously, it is not clear cut finding good airfares these days.

My original objective was to find a good fare for a vacation to include the coast of Nayarit with a few days in Guadalajara and maybe Tepic. I eventually settled on flying to Puerto Vallarta from SFO, and I will rent a car there and drive up the coast and then inland.

Alaska has a fare sale going on now which is advertised as $105 each way. The thing is, the fare is only offered on certain days of the week AND when you get done with all the taxes and fees, it is increased by approximately 50%. So my round trip fare came out to $309.

For me, this is the simplest, and possibly the cheapest way to get to where I am going. But it is good to see that there are alternatives. Possibly for people in southern California, it might end up being worth the hassle to travel by land to Tijuana, rather than flying from LAX.

Don't think so, you and your partner are the ones mis-judging and scaring people from TJ flights. I never commented on flying from SFO to SD first, that's something you made up in your xxxxx xxxxxx mind. I was only speaking of flights originating from TJ. Read a little closer...

The price I quoted of $195 r/t to Hermosillo is "with" taxes, so try again on that one.

Regarding the $150 r/t flight, that was posted eariler on the thread, you must have skipped that part.

Nice try though.

Once again, since you're obviously having a difficult time comprehending what I wrote in my last post in this thread, I never tried to scare anyone from coming to Tijuana. I lived in TJ for the past 5 years until February of this year so I'm positive that I know considerably more about the city and the people than you do.

Who's my partner btw? Once again you seem to be imagining something that isn't true.

I know you never commented on flying from SFO to SD you completely missed the original post where Larry wrote:

How is Larry supposed to get to TJ from the bay area genius?

You didn't mention that the flight you were referring to was from TJ to Hermosillo. You made it sound like it was a flight from TJ to GDL.

If anyone "skipped" any parts of this thread it was you. You completely forgot that the main topic was finding the best flight from the bay area to GDL not from TJ to GDL.

JZ - 5-16-2007 at 11:59 PM

You talk too much jackweed. You and your partner screwed up, so just give up.
