Best Baja Cartop Boat

kitjv - 5-5-2007 at 06:17 PM

Okay, I know this is a loaded question & there is no single best answer. But let me phrase it this way.

I am looking for informed opinions on the best cartop beach boat for the Baja. I'm talking about a boat that best embodies the following characteristics:

*** 10 - 12 feet LOA
*** aluminum or fiberglass
*** lightweight
*** reasonably seaworthy for its size
*** able to get up on step
*** comfortable for 2 adults with gear.

Thank you, everyone!

In my opinion there is only one---------------a 14 foot Gregor Alum. boat.

It meets all of your criteria, and is practically indestructable---------------I have gone everywhere in Baja with my 14 foot Gregor on top of my Truck camper, mounted on an Eide automatic boat loader. I can handle it by myself if I have too, and it is just great!!!

Go to the Gregor boat page and ypu will see quite a variety of boats.
I used a Gregor Baja 15 and it was good for two men but to small for three.
I was able to carry it on a pipe rack on a 93 Ford Ranger no problem. It was a little difficult to load and unload but doable.
I think I will try and figure out how to put a 17 foot Gregor Baja on a Ford F150 with a pipe rack.

I have an Eide Boat Loader with a 1992, 14' Lund that I put on my F350.
Works like a charm !! Go with the biggest boat you can afford and load.
A few extra pounds makes for a big difference in fishing/cruising comfort.
I can drag it down to the water easily without the motor and a rope to the truck pulls it up to my loading spot with the motor still mounted.
