tourist card question

dr650 - 5-6-2007 at 08:22 PM

Hola a todo,

A nice guy at an immigration office put down 6 months on my tourist card last March, even though I was only going to be in his country for 2 weeks.

I'm back up north now and I still have the card. Can I use it for my trip back down later this month? Or, should I get a new card?

Somebody told me I should get a new card. Someone else told me I should just use the old one. What's the skinny lowdown on such a swell conundrum ??

Thanks.

We use the same FMT until it expires and have never had a problem.

Where are you going this month?

I have always gotten them to make them good for 6 months (about the max that I can talk them into) and make several trips down and back within that time period----------no problem.

Diane & Barry,

Thanks for getting back so quickly. Regarding the tourist card, I'll just use the 6 month one ... sounds like the ticket.

Diane ... We're hoping to roll our way down to somewhere between Santa Rosalia and Loreto, although maybe with a little luck we'll get down to La Paz for a bit.

Take care,

Murphy

I thought that the standard duration of a tourist card was 6 months or 180 days. Every time I have gotten one that has been the case......

I have had to get the officer to change his entry from 90 days to 180 days! He was faster than I could say 180! My logic is if they are going to tax us for visiting Mexico and the price is $20 for the FM-T regardless of the duration put in the box... then go for the maximum 180 days, since it is reusable for each LAND trip!
