I'm new here and have been reading quite a lot. I've noticed that everyone is more then eager to help each other out.
I'm here to offer as a suggestion only, share something each of you can investigate on your own. Clean drinking water in your Mexican home. NO, I'm
not selling anything, just trying to offer something quick and easy to eliminate you from having to buy bottled water. The hassle of having bottle
water in every room.
I'm a retired Yacht Captain http://www.ronpost.com/ and on all our larger yachts we have both a "Water Maker" and a "Water Fixer" It's the water fixer I want to introduce
you to.
With the water fixer you can drink pure water, just like bottled water, no matter what the source. The water fixer cleans the water with a Rust
particle filter, a charcoal filter for taste and odor, and then an Ultraviolet light that takes out 99.9 % of all bacteria.
I have been living in Ensenada for almost 9 years now. I have a 3 story, 5 bed/ 5 bathroom house covering more than 5,000 sq. ft. I have the only
home in Ensenada where you can drink out of any faucet in the house while on water from the city. My water fixer is plumbed so that when the water
leaves the street Meter it enters the Water Fixer and then goes to the entire house. Pure Water.
Here's the measurements Dimensions:
Length 20"
Depth 3.5"
Height 15.5"
They retail for $449 each. At Custom Marine Electronics "CME" 619-224-3646 in San Diego. The owner Harold says if a group of 6 or more wanted to
purchase them he would charge only $380 a piece. OR $449 each for individual purchases. The filters (2) last 4-5 months without needing to change
them.
On the yachts that have the Water fixer, we can put on water literally any where in the world and not have to worry. Even with the water maker,
converting salt water to fresh water we use the water fixer to insure the water to be bacteria free if the water maker doesn't have a UV light.
Here's their web site so you can read and investigate. It's well worth the few minutes it takes to install it.
And I've just been drinking the tap water here for 12 years.
But I suppose if I had a lot of guests I might consider one.

Thank you for the info.
We've been looking for a good UV filtration system that doesn't waste water. We'll definitely check it out.Bedman - 5-7-2007 at 04:39 PM
Thanks for the info Lobo. I've thought about doing that same thing.

---sounds like a winner to me. Many thanks for posting------this is info that many can use, I am betting.Sharksbaja - 5-7-2007 at 05:07 PM
Sounds great. What kind of life do the filters have when used like you do? Thanks.Loboron - 5-7-2007 at 06:17 PM

We have 5 bathrooms and two teenagers and a medium size yard we water daily.
The the pretreatment filter last us 4 months, we only have to change the Charcoal every other pretreatment change.Bob and Susan - 5-7-2007 at 06:19 PM
doesn't it take 10 gallons to make one good gallon and the pressure is very low
just a question...i don't knowBajaWarrior - 5-7-2007 at 06:28 PM
There is some waste yes, I have reverse osmosis in San Diego. It's more like 1 to 1.
The water is pretty hard in Baja and can be brackish and with sedement from the wells. How long would the filters last?Bob and Susan - 5-7-2007 at 06:47 PM
reverse osmosis IS 10 to 1
you waste 10 gallons to get one and NO pressure
it's really slowDiver - 5-7-2007 at 07:07 PM
Why filter the water that you use for outside watering and washing ?
We filter one hose bib to wash the cars and save the filters by bypassing anything else that doesn't run in the house.
Also, UV takes power ! Lots of it ! Or it's really slow.

RO is 10:1 if you are making fresh from salt. It's actually far less than 1:1 if just purifying already fresh water. You do need UV to get rid of
bacteria and virus. Loboron is talking about a filtering and UV system for using on fresh water, sounds OK to me.Bedman - 5-8-2007 at 12:48 AM
Hmmm......?? trying to find the wattage use. Looks like the Model 1000 uses 1000 watts and the 500 model uses 500 watts. Might make it less desirable
for those of us on Solar.
Anybody know what the wattage requirement is for these?
BedmanAmoPescar - 5-8-2007 at 02:44 AM
Steve,
It just runs off 12V DC or 120 AC, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't use anywhere close to 1000 (or 500) watts to operate. Probably the only part of it
that requires electricity is the Ultraviolet bulb. There would be no pump needed because it would work off of water pressure. I think you were
confused by the model no. at the beginning of the power requirement specs.
Michael capt. mike - 5-8-2007 at 07:07 AM
if you have a soft water loop and your hose bibbs are on sep lines that deal would be good, keep it offf the SW loop and you won't be wasting the
filters on washing etc water, just your drinking.Loboron - 5-8-2007 at 07:14 AM
Glad to see that I've generated some interest.
#1 There is NO waste, it filters the water and when it goes through the U.V. tank the bacteria is killed.
#2. The difference in the two models is the amount of flow.
Model 500 is 1.5 gallons a minute.
Model 1000 is 4 gallons a minute same a house. Fill a five gallon water bottle you buy and see how long it takes.
#3. The system requires no pump, there's no restriction other than a dirty filter. When you notice the pressure dropping it's time to change the
pretreatment filter.
#4. The Ultraviolet light is offered in 12 DC or 110 AC. That's because a lot of sailboats without generator or RV without generators can still use
the system.
The life of the filters depend of course on the amount of water you draw each day and the quality of the city water. Like a fuel or gasoline filter,
how often do you change it?Depends on how much fuels flows through it.
Here in Ensenada, where I live, Loma San Marino the water is terrible. When I change the pretreatment filter the canister is full of Black water.
However the Carbon filter canister is always clear water.
Why do we filter the water for the yard, etc. I explained that we have the Water Fixer plumbed at the meter off the street to the house. Everything,
including the bathrooms are all going through the system. However you can plumb it anyway you wish. You can make it portable also, put it on a cart
and move it around and filter what ever you want. For me it much easier to filter the house no hassle.Marie-Rose - 5-8-2007 at 07:26 AM
Last year we had ozone installed into our large under ground cistern. When we arrive we shock the cistern with bleach and turn the ozone on. It
makes the water safe to clean veggies, brush teeth etc...not safe to drink and we did not use it for cooking.
We just had a filter and reverse osmosis system installed under our kitchen sink for drinking and cooking. Works really well.
We are lucky as we also have a seperate city water outlet that we use for watering, and outdoor use.
