Feliz Dia de Las Madres

Happy mothers day all you moms out there. Sirenita called me early to sing me Las Mañanitas which always brings tears to my eyes..gracias hija.Today is a very special day in Mexico when mothers are honored. Last night there was a big dance to bring in Las Mañanitas to las mamas del pueblo. Women don't have to go to work and in most villages there are big celebrations. Today there is a grand event in the hall...a good meal, music, entertainment, a raffle and dance for mom's only. The cerveza flows freely...they bring pitchers around and fill your glass all day and all the women get really silly...it is one day where they can get crazy without getting in trouble. (Of course the men cook and take the opportunity to get wasted too) So enjoy your day madres.
Arriba las madres!

What a wonderful day! Dia de Las Madres was one of my most favorite holidays when I had the opportunity to live in Baja. My daughter's school in Chapultepec had a fun celebration that lasted the entire school day. The children sang songs, performed plays, presented each mom with a chocolate rose and a great lunch. The children had made gifts that were proudly given to very happy moms. I loved that day!

A very happy day to you too Sheri. We're celebrating up here today and again on Sunday! Whooo hoooo!

Teaching in Calexico was great the first part of May. Many of my students remembered me on Dia de Las Madres, and on the US Mother's Day. Sharing two cultures in one area is just great.

Celebrate both days.
