Recycling in La Paz

Marie-Rose - 5-11-2007 at 08:26 AM

Everyone I have spoken to around here (TS) says they have given up on trying to bring glass bottles to the glass factory in Cabo for recycling. (some days they take them, some days not, some days only green, somedays only clear etc.)
Is there a glass and plactic recycling in La Paz:?: If so, can someone tell me where it is?

Our local rural school has a recycling program. On the school grounds, the've set up 55-gal. drums in several locations, with individual drums designated for glass, aluminum, paper, plastic, and organic waste. The kids do the sorting and learn about the benefits of recycling.

Once a week, a jobber picks up the materials and pays the PTA, usually the equivalent of about sixty bucks. When you understand that government only builds the school and pays teachers' salaries, you can see that this additional income goes a long way towards purchasing nice extras, like textbooks.

If your nearby school doesn't have such a program, you can have a lot of fun helping them organize one.
