Hi

805gregg - 5-16-2007 at 07:31 PM

Hello, my name is Gregg, I want to introduce myself, I've been trying to post for 6 months , for some reason my password was always rejected, I'm 58 I still surf, boat, fish, camp, 4x4 ( Liberty diesel, 1 ton Dodge diesel) and motorcycle, Suzuki DL1000, HondaST1300. I hope to meet some more Baja nuts on this site. I've been going to Baja for fun for about 44 years so I've seen it all from when I got a conch in Bay of Conception in 1973 to the freak show of Cabo San Ludircrous. I still love the Baja.

Welcome to Nomad Gregg!

Maybe we have some similar memories? I started visiting Baja in 1965 as a boy and as soon as I could drive myself, I was going on my own!

Here I am in 1967 at the Calamajue Canyon ore mill ruins between Gonzaga and L.A. Bay... I was almost 10 ...

WELCOME TO BAJA NOMAD GREGG!!!

If it's information and sharing about the Baja that you want, you've come to the right place. It's a great group of people participating here. As you'll come to find out, they're all ages, both men and women, with all levels of Baja experience.

Sometimes, it's hard to not feel intimidated by all THEIR experience, but from what you write, you've got plenty of experiences and tales to share. So, don't be afraid to jump in and offer your experience or share your tales.

I'm close to your age...56, and like you, love all the things Baja has to offer, except surfing. I grew up in Huntington Beach and did a little of it as a kid, but just never warmed up to it. Prefer, the SOC side, but enjoy it all. I live in north San Diego County in Carlsbad.

If you ever have any questions about how Nomad works, don't be afraid to ask. Many of us have needed help in one way or another, wth posting pictures or whatever. Using the U2U is also a good way to contact members and ask questions.

And...never be shy about participating in any events organized by Nomads. You'll be welcomed warmly and soon feel like they're all you're old friends.

Yup, we get together ever so often to celebrate our affection for Baja California... Here we are meeting up to begin our Tijuana tour for Viva Baja Cactus (Nov. '06)... Amo Pescar, Neal Johns, John M, and Geo Rock are in this photo... The rest of the photos can be found in the Baja Nomad Trip Reports forum and listed in my Baja Notebook (link below).

Before I noticed the location in the post, I thought the 805 reference was to the freeway that goes to Baja.

shari - 5-17-2007 at 12:43 PM

Bienvenido Gregg...nice bio dude! We have alot in common (except we're Tecateros!) so we hope you make it out our way on your next Baja sojourn. You will love this board...it's hilarious AND informative! Plus a winner when it comes to introducing you to new amigos.

Greg,

Welcome aboard. We have a lot in common, I too have a Diesel Pickup (Ford), a 4x4 Xterra, and my motorcycle is a FJR1300. I travel in Baja in all of them. Were the same age also. Hope to see you in your travels. This is a great site with some great folks!

805gregg - 5-17-2007 at 08:42 PM

Thanks for the welcome all, I will try to respond to the posts soon, this is going to be great, Gregg

805gregg - 5-19-2007 at 07:36 AM

I wsa able to log on for a few days in a row, the gods are smiling, I don't drive a Toyota, because my toys are too big, last time I weighed my boat and trailer it was 9000#, it's a matter of the tail wagging the dog, the truck has to be big enough to resist the boat shaking it back and forth. I've been a Dodge guy for many years, my first trip to the tip in 73 was in a 69 dodge PU. We went to Cabo that trip, (boy I wish I had bought some land) there was nothing there. We camped on the beach in front of Zippers under a palapa, wish I could still do that. I coined the phrase Cabo San Ludricous on my last trip into Cabo, we stayed at the East Cape and on the day of our flight back decided to go into Cabo for a little shopping, drove around for 45 min before I found a parking place. In the early 60's I had a good friend whose family had a house at Campo Lopez (let's see who knows where that one was) we spent many days there playing in the surf, and learning to slow down the Baja way. I currently have a friend named Gregorio, that is building a house at Punta Pequina, anyone know him? I lived in San Diego for 12 years so a morning surf and carnitas at Las Flores De Michocian in Rosorito was an easy run. Now I don't get down as often as I would like, but looming retirement has me itching for more Baja maybe 3 or 4 more years of the rat race. Sure glad I found this site, I'm also a member Of Vagabundos del Mar for many years. I have pictures on film and slides but I'm also somewhat computer illiterate, so I need to learn how to post. My last trip to Mexico was to Punta Mita, neet spot, but a new road, (like Cabo) will spell the doom. I hope to meet some of you all in person. Later gregg

DENNIS - 5-20-2007 at 02:02 PM

Campo Lopez = K- 54 ?

Skipjack Joe - 5-20-2007 at 02:10 PM

Cabo San Ludicrous!

You made a contribution with your first post.

Welcome!

Phil S - 5-21-2007 at 07:42 PM

Welcome Gregg. You must be o.k. guy. Dodge owner. I've owned Dodge diesel pickups for a lot of years. Dodge "rules" when you know how to use the "tools"!!!!! Ford brags, but I don't see them with a 6 cy diesel that does what they have to do with 8 cy.????:D:D:D:D
Ludicrous to some. Crazy place to others. Add a little "paradise", then visit "Cabo San Lucas". Makes you appreciate "paradise". So you need both to know what the difference is. Loreto for 16 winter's, and Cabo San Lucas for a break in November for Thanksgiving for two weeks. Then back to Loreto/Nopolo to appreciate what it's all about. Heck, some folks that live in crazy L.A., find fun in Disneyland????????? Others will go all the way to Orlando to experience Epcot Center & DisneyWorld??????? I figure living in L.A. isn't much different than Cabo San Lucas???????
Welcome to one heck of a website. Full of great people with great ideas, and some who march to a different drum beat. But all put their pants on the same way, and came from the same creator. So you'll have lots of fun, putting visions of some of the posters until your able to meet them. Some will fit the picture. Some will surprise the heck out of you. But they are all a great contribution to the Baja Nomad family.

Nope close K55, now I think closed to the masses.

DENNIS - 5-22-2007 at 04:29 PM

Close is good enough but, I still say K -54. Almost rented a space there in the early sixties. Glad I didn't since a bunch of it slid down the hill in the late eighties.

54 ---- 55, It's all the same I suppose since you couldn't see the road from inside the camp.
