Davey's Locker RANT!

fishbuck - 5-17-2007 at 03:21 PM

I got clued in from another post that the local yellowtail were turning on.
I check the counts and sure enough San Clemente Island is hot. So I check the Schedule for Davey's and see and overnight boat open party for $120. Not cheap but reasonable for a shot at a couple of yellows.
So I call up and they tell me sorry private charter.
I'm starting to hate those guys. Everytime the fishing gets good they switch from a scheduled open party to private charter.
That's why I really don't like SoCal anymore. There's always some rich a-hole willing to dump on pile on money on anything good here. Regular guys get stuck with crap.
That's why the women are so screwed up here too. And why a cappy little house costs $600000.
This place sucks. All I want to do is catch a few yellowtail. Is that asking too damn much?
I can't go this weekend so maybe I can get on a boat next week. But by then the fish will probably be scattered all over the ocean.
And no I don't feel better now. I'm still angry and what to kick someone butt!

You are soo right!
I'm just recovering from a broken shoulder and haven't been able to do much.
Maybe I should just jump in my truck and head south.
Anybody know if the yellows have gotten to Bola or Fransquito?

woody with a view - 5-17-2007 at 04:22 PM

how do you really feel?

h&m is getting lots o' tail on the full day boats, and seaforth, too.

fishbuck - 5-17-2007 at 04:32 PM

Ya, you guys are probably right. I was just frustrated because I wanted to be impulsive and jump on a boat tonight.
I do fish from San Diego alot but it's a 1.5-2 hour ride from Costa Mesa where I live and the traffic has been getting worse.
Nothing like getting on a boat 15min from your house. Especially when you get back.

Fish ---

Since you're such an environment conscious hunter-fisher, why dont you go for something more edible than yellowtail? It's like eating kapok.
Jeezo.....What an overrated fish for the table.

fishbuck - 5-17-2007 at 04:37 PM

Um, cause that's all we've got?
Plus they fight good. And they taste prety good.
Why Dennis what's you favorite tasting fish?

DENNIS - 5-17-2007 at 04:42 PM

Halibut comes to mind.

Hook - 5-17-2007 at 04:52 PM

Fishbuck, check Dana Wharf. It's even closer to SCI, though the boat may not be as big as Davey's. You're only gonna spend 18 hours on it anyway.

Is it a complete live squid bite?

Bingo! Give the man his prize!

On a day when I was loving SoCal very much. I do that sometimes.

DENNIS - 5-17-2007 at 06:30 PM

Ya, that's where I do alot of my growing up too. Hoping to move my little show down Baja way and do some growing up there too.
If I do it right I'll never grow up!

Ya, sierras are fun to catch. Toothy little critters though. Plus hard to clean. Can they be filleted?

capt. mike - 5-18-2007 at 05:33 AM

cooked right, Jurel is mighty good!!

hey Fishbuck - just go get in a plane and cruise a while.........better than prozac for your nerves!!

And the best is

baitcast - 5-18-2007 at 07:30 AM

We have to do this every once and a while:lol:
There are so many good eating fish, the choices are many,it would be hard to improve on a WSB fillet, how about some halibut or maybe a 5# or 6# cabrilla, all to good to pass up.
