Another guessing game...

Paula - 5-18-2007 at 08:56 PM

What Baja town were we in here?

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 06:47 AM

Hmmm... no guesses. It is a kind of scary picture. It isn't our place in Loreto:biggrin:
Here is another clue:

BajaBruno - 5-19-2007 at 06:57 AM

Grand Central Station--it's got lots of scary things.

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 07:09 AM

This one appears to bolster the Grand Central theory, but it isn't in New York, it's in baja:

fdt - 5-19-2007 at 07:51 AM

El Triunfo BCS

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 08:08 AM

fdt

Congratulations! You may choose a prize:

Vinntage stereo or
a new home

or... The grand prize

Disclaimer: all prizes are virtual, giving you only the right to dream. None are actually available.

fdt - 5-19-2007 at 08:21 AM

Wow :wow: Is this for real or just a dream, I'll take # 1 so I can update my sound system

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 10:37 AM

I need to hear the pelicans so I can detect their accent, but judgin from that nice calm water I'd say they are on the Sea of Cortez. Boy, Pompano, this is a tough one!

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 10:57 AM

Pompano... I was thinking maybe Bahia Magdalena. That's where we saw this great blue heron.

Near the Old Mill in San Quintin ???

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 11:10 AM

How's about waaaaay out in the bahia... jotting out from the fish camp on the island (I believe it's an island) where there are trails which one can hike with beautiful views and all sorts of wild nature. Nice little panga trip after whale watching, that pier... and then round to the schools of dolphins.

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 11:17 AM

Beautiful heron picture, Natalie Ann!

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 11:20 AM

Paula - I'll thank Steve, who I failed to mention is the photog on that one. I was too busy just taking in the incredible number of water fowl and the sheer beauty of the place.

I really enjoyed your El Triunfo photos btw. It's been awhile since I've been there and you brought back some nice memories.

Nena

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 11:24 AM

Oh Pompano, thank you for such a delicious looking prize (and I do mean the banana split - grin).

Now who will give us the next 'where is it'?

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 11:53 AM

I'm glad you liked the pictures, Nena. I love the quirky little things about a place that make unique. I was really impressed with the stonework on that house, and I think when it's ready the stereo would look good in it, though the music museum might think differently...

The 'where is its' are always fun, though I'm usually stumped by them.

DianaT - 5-19-2007 at 12:07 PM

Always enjoy this---more pictures, and more places to visit.

This one may be too easy???

Diane

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 12:51 PM

Sweet little place, Diane... but I have no idea where. Other clues?

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 01:05 PM

I have no guesses either, though I wonder if your recent purchase in Baja might be a clue? It's a nice little chapel.

DianaT - 5-19-2007 at 01:22 PM

Not where we bought---further north---I really liked the design of that church

Another picture

Paula, that grand piano is of great value. It is made of solid rose wood and is worth probabaly around $150,000 if refinished.

Ok, another hint ---- road paved recently

Natalie Ann - 5-19-2007 at 03:04 PM

Hmmmm.... are we perhaps on the Cortes side? Could this be Puertecitos?

No, have to go north --- Big hint---think Bahia de Los Angeles and Pacific Ocean.:spingrin:

Would love to have that piano!

Paula - 5-19-2007 at 06:05 PM

We have driven past the Museo de la Musica many times, and finally found it open. It isn't that they are unreliable, we are just off schedule. They have an impressive collection of all sorts of insruments, and many historic photos. The stereo is also on exhibit there. As we wandered through the museum Moonlight Sonata was playng on a more modern stereo, and the experience was lovely. A great stop as you pass through. And a walk through the town on the streets off the highway is great-- a lot to see there! The painting sits on a stage in the courtyard of the old city building.

Paulina - 5-19-2007 at 06:12 PM

I'm guessing San Hipolito?

Edit: Bonehead answer! I have a photo of the little church in San Hipolito. Too much tea for me this evening!

Sweet!!

Grover is a lucky guy, Diane!

Paulina - 5-20-2007 at 05:49 AM

Grover,

I want that yard art. What will you trade it for?

P<*)))><

DianaT - 5-20-2007 at 02:41 PM

OK, the major yard art is gone, but these prizes are still available.

An all expense 3 day stay at this trailer park

Stay in the trailer of your choice

Or a custom designed fence

or last but not least, a new mobile home.

Just identify this lighthouse in Baja

Diane

Natalie Ann - 5-20-2007 at 04:50 PM

OK Diane... I have never seen the lighthouse, but sure could use that new fence. It looks just perfect for the garden renovation I've been working on these last weeks.

How's about someone tell me about Diane's 'where is it', and I'll tell her and win the prize?:light::yes::dudette:

Paula - 5-20-2007 at 04:57 PM

There is a similar lighthouse out on a point west from Guerrero Negro, past the sad spot where there are some very powerful shrines. Could it be that one?

I really like the mobile home.

No intruders will get by that fence!

Dang, how do I get that mobile home through customs?---think they will notice it? Guerrero Negro is it.

That fence grew on me as I stared at it---had a strange art feeling to it, just like all of the town of Keeler.

Whose next?:bounce:

Diane

Paula - 5-20-2007 at 08:18 PM

Lovable furry old Grover (sorry G, had to say the Grover thing just once), i didn't think to notice what kind of stereo, just thought it was classic. Chek it out at the music museum... if I get there first, I'll pay more attention:D

Feliz navidad

Skipjack Joe - 5-29-2007 at 08:11 PM

Can anyone recognize this place?

We all pass it on the way south. It's usually pretty empty because it's overpriced. My son always wants us to stop here for a cold coke.

Hint: the floor is all sand or small shell fragments, I can't remember.

restaurant.jpg - 49kB

toneart - 5-29-2007 at 08:23 PM

That's the round restaurant just inside the state line in Guerrero Negro.

Skipjack Joe - 5-29-2007 at 08:24 PM

You got it! :yes::yes:

After the long drive from Catavina we always stop there to relax. I don't remember which side of the immigration office it's located, but I think it's the south side. They have these hard, thick tortilla chips which we also like very much. All of baja has chips that seem to be better than anything we have up here in California.

toneart - 5-29-2007 at 08:53 PM

Skipjack,

So for my prize...maybe you could leave a gift certificate there for my next trip down.

roundtuit - 5-29-2007 at 11:32 PM

It is called Marios or something like that. About 3/4 miles south of state line. 20 pesos for spraying tires than 20 pesos a coke. But a real nice decore. If you ever stop there ck out the wall murals:o:o:o

Skipjack,

It is called Marios. Their Mano De Leon scallops are usually as good as they get. We try to stop there once each trip. It's the big Palapa restaurant on the west side of the road.

Wish I was eating lunch there today!

Ken

FYI I have seen large groups of RV'ers camped behind the restaurant, don't know what services they offer though.

Pompano

Los Piņos! Did you know that they recently put in a million dollar(s) desal plant for their farm operation? Keep those tomatoes coming!

[Edited on 5-30-2007 by elgatoloco]

Skipjack Joe - 5-30-2007 at 11:27 AM

Have you noticed how clean Alex's tee-shirt is in the picture?

That's because we're driving south.

Thanks for the tip, Ken.

Paulina - 5-30-2007 at 12:30 PM

Oh NOooo, do we have to all see Elgatoloco's prize? Congrats EGL!

JK,

P<*)))><

DianaT - 5-30-2007 at 01:53 PM

Now I know why Paulina was objecting. :O:O :spingrin:

I will be sure I know exactly what the prize is before I ever guess again.:yes:

Was surprised to see Los Pinos out the Vizciano Pen.

Has anybody ever put a match to one of those spouts?:D

Paulina - 5-30-2007 at 01:55 PM

I think EGL's prize needs a thong from Shari!

P<*)))><

elgatoloco - 5-30-2007 at 05:03 PM

Holy crapo! For once I wish I wasn't such a know-it-all!

Can I trade my prize for some ice cream?

elgatoloco - 5-30-2007 at 05:42 PM

Dairy Queen? Isn't that what they call a farmer in high heels?

I will humbly accept my prize.

I would LOVE some of that carne asada Mulege style right now. Alas, I will have to wait for fall to partake. This was the first year we did not make it to Baja Sur/Concepcion in the spring since 1996. :(
