A question about television Coaxial Cable

Pompano RG6 has a loss of of 6.5 to 7.3dB per 100 feet at 1000Mhz. Sat LNBs are 950-1450Mhz or somewhere in that area. So you'd have a loss of 16 to 18 dB or more. Belden 9248 is the better cable. RG11 has a loss of 4.3dB for Belden 9292 and 5.5dB for 89292. Both have a braid and foil shield. At 4.3 dB there is a 10.75 dB loss for 250 feet. I also think the LNBs have a gain of around 60dB. So I think either one will work but the RG11 will be the best and it's also harder to work with, the center conductor is 14 gauge wire. At work we have sat runs from the roof that are close to 200 feet using RG6.

I forgot, I do have two satellite dishes with runs of over 250 feet in the parking lot using RG6.

The easiest fix is an in line Amplifier, At Radio Shack there about $15.00.

Here's a site so you can see one. They're very small and all you do is put it in line between the Dish and receiver. THe closer to the receiver the better as it pushes the amplified signal.

This one is to expensive, but it gives you and idea of what it looks like.
