Seems, from the response, that Tecate is a place to pass through. I was heading north a few years back and thought I'd spend the night in a Tecate motel. There is an area where they seem to be grouped and I stopped at two newer but modest motels to check'm out. They were anything but cheap. In my estimation, they were overpriced. 70+ dollars per night. I went on to Chula Vista and stayed at the Vagabond for 50.
There may be cheap motels in Tecate but, I didn't find them.

There is a place called Rancho Ojai just out of town that has secure parking and cabins for rent. They may have a web site.

Sancho, most of the hotels in Tecate are not real nice or secure and I do not recommend any except one. I was staying at my friends house in Tecate and some more friends came down and we went looking for a hotel by the area. We were on Benito Juarez street, as you cross the border and go down all the way to the Park and turn right going west on Benito Juarez on about the 7th block you will find a fair hotel on the right. It cost my other friend $65 dollars for the night and he it was clean and most importantly did not smell. You can ask to see the room before you pay to see if it meets your needs. I do not remember the name but the directions I gave you will get you there and each room had an airconditioner and many of the others did not. We did not see the Rancho Ojai but next time I go to Tecate I will get with my friend that lives there and check it out as it always pays to have another choice for future parties and too many friends.
