French Toast Sammy - This Is To Die For

Diver - 5-24-2007 at 12:56 PM

Sounds mouth watering !!

We make a variation that we call "Tropical French Toast".

We mash the bananas and add them to the egg mix, soak the bread and fry the whole thing. Cover with fresh fruit, syrup or powdered sugar and whipped cream !!!

Wish your photo had shown the before shot ! I'm hungry !!

When Zack was little and we were experimenting with foods he would eat, eggs was not one of them. Since we have our own flock of layers that just wouldn't do. French toast was the solution; with lot's of syrup, what kid wouldn't eat it !!

I like French Toast for dinner sometimes !!
Maybe with a nice side of venison sausage ??
Or a few 1" thick medalions at the venison "strap" sauted in butter ?
Mmmmmm......

French Toast is always a special treat.:bounce:

Or would that be freedom toast?

I'll try your recipe except of the banana part. I have only used bread, eggs, and cinnamon. I've never heard of using half & half and vanilla extract. I'm sure that it would be good to use real maple syrup rather than the corn syrup kind. My kid is an extremely picky eater, and I like to make him french toast so that I know at least he is getting a full egg's worth of protein - and he doesn't even know he is eating something yucky like an egg.

Is there a Spanish toast? That would seem more Baja-ian.:smug:

mozzarella in carroza is the italian version of a french toast grilled cheese sandwich.

mix up your favorite french toast dipping mix minus the sweetner and dip your bread.

place both slices on a low to medium heat pan that has hot oilive oil in it

brown those sides lightly now flip them, put mozzarella cheese on one cooked side and quickly slap the other cooked side down on that.

continue cooking the side that is down and flip when done to cook the other side.

variation is to put sliced grilled sausage in with the cheese also

Dam yummy

I've been waiting for Shari to post her French Toast Waffles recipe.....

She puts whole grain bread in the waffle maker.
I think she just soaks them in egg batter. Maybe she'll tell ?
Simple and delicious !!

Come October, try making French Toast Mexican style by using Pan de los Muertos. That already has a bit of orange flavor and I think the Gran Marnier would enhance it! We did French Toast last fall with the Pan de los Muertos -- it was great -- very creamy and moist inside, especially after pouring the egg mixture over the bread and letting it sit in the fridge all night long

"Sounds mouth watering!" Threads that open like this, without letting us uninformed folks know what's gone on before, are puzzling.

WHAT the hell sounded mouth watering, Diver?

bajabound2005 - 6-23-2007 at 09:42 PM

Well, this post started with a great French Toast recipe, with pix if memory serves...that's what Diver was drooling over! Now, what the heck happened to the recipe???

Have a recipe for a "Creme Brulee French Toast"...I'm working up to it.
