The most perceptive American author about Mexican affairs is Sam Quinones. He offers fascinating insight into Mexican society in Mexico and the US in
his two books:
True Tales from Another Mexico
and
Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Immigration
The later is brand new and contains a chapter on the state of classical music in Tijuana including a man's successful quest to open an opera cafe
there.
I think many Nomads would be interested in these books, which are composed primarily of collected articles which fit together as general book themes.
The new book had a big feature review in the San Francisco Chronicle a few weeks ago.
