GONZAGA BAY TO PUERTECITOS

BAJACAT - 5-30-2007 at 08:46 PM

What a road!, this is the far more worse road I have ever travel we left Campo Beluga at 6:20Am and arrived at Puertecitos at 8:35Am my odometer was reading 49 miles.
The scenery in this road makes you forget all about the washboard, holes and rocks in the road, the average speed we travel was 45 m/h,I was driving a 2004 Ram and my brother inlaw was driving a 2001 Ford F250,we never had to used the 4wd.

Here is a picture of the many dangers on this road

Thanks for the info I will be traveling that way June 10th. I have never been on this road but it has been calling my name for a while.
The pics are great. Really looking forward to checking it out and doing some fishing.
I will try to do a trip report when I return.

Just like you this road was calling me, I wanted to see what a lot of road reports said about this road, making it like impassable, people getting slash tires multiple flats, broken shoocks on so on .,but actually it wasn't so bad, if you pick your lines on the road and get into a speed that you feel that you car is floatting, you got it. We lower are tire preassure to 20psi.Im not going to lie my shocks where boiling hot to the touch, but they survive.have fun in your june trip.be safe watch out for those big holes in the side of the road.

Glad you made it, but....

If you can average 45mph in fairly stock truck the road is pretty darn good IMO. Give me a call when you get down to 5-10 mph or less. That's a bad road. Thanks for the report though.

Well let me tell you thisIMHO, the last mile or so to get to Guadalupe canyon is about 5 miles per hour, just because of so many rocks, but you"r not beatting your truck down, the Gonzaga to Puertecitos road is bad because it has so many dips and wasboard, that at 45m/h it almost melts your stock shocks(I have the Ranchos RSX) on my truck.if you drive 5 to 10 miles/hour it will take you for ever to reach Puertecitos and I didn't have 6 hours to spare, you should of seen my truck, it felt it was going to fall a part,my shocks where boiling hot but they survive, you also take in cosideration that I was hauling camping gear for 6 people, plus six people in the car.

This is a 5 mile per hour road.(Palomar canyon)..
