...just got back from HMB, below Mavericks, for some foggy, beach time.
There were a couple of 'Paddle Surfers' out on the mini curls - first time I'd seen em'! Those long, 11 ft. boards are a blast from the past...could
probably even support my large body!
Just wondering what 'real' Baja surfers thought of these Standing, Paddle Boarders...?
Looks like once you get your grip of standing on that wide board, you're half way home to some fun in the small stuff...don't know how they'd handle
in the bigger surf...
Any comments?

Caught a look of paddle surfing in Los Barriles this winter...very cool. It's supposed to be a real work-out and is catching on quickly in the water

A Hawaiian invention. Laird Hamilton is a big proponent of it in California. There was article last year in the L.A. Times about some guys in the
lineup at Malibu saying hey, who's the kook paddling over here on a stand up board, until they realized it was Hamilton. I don't think anyone's

Ancient history: I learned to surf on a 10'6" Yater, never could make the transition to the pocket rockets.

I’m not sure how popular they are at the more crowded spots with everyone else who’s trying to catch a little wave or two in this highly competitive
surfing era. The boards are huge and the guys can stand way outside of everyone else and pick off the waves they want. They look like a slab of
sidewalk coming at you on a wave. A friend on Maui who lives in front of one of the more congested spots says they have made surfing there just about
intolerable.
I’ve been told that at San Onofre they’re relegated to the "other water equipment" zone with the kayaks and surfskis etc. They aren't allowed in the
surfing section of the beach.
I'm starting to see lots of them on flat-water when I'm out paddleboarding (the other kind of paddling, with your arms). Even folks who don't appear
like they've ever surfed or spent any time near the water before are taking them out in the harbor (Dana Pt), and they say it's good exercise for the
midsection.
There may be some good deals on used ones on craigslist in a couple of months .
The position looks like it would give you a back ache and seems awkward with both feet parallel to the rails, but I can't knock it til I try it cause

Which side of the lagoon will the new Naranjos Yacht Club be erected? There should be a long bar in the plans, with a view of all the Mega Yachts to
be moored in the harbor!

I can't believe I missed this thread! We've been having a blast with our low budget paddle surfboard down at Estero (old stripped bic windsurfer with
long boat oar).
The kids were fighting over it, preferring it to the Kayaks. I'm gonna have to scrounge around for some more on Craigs List if I want to get any time
on it.
You guys should give it a try. It can make super-small surf actually fun!
