How many of us hail from California?

San Diego here

DENNIS - 6-2-2007 at 06:25 PM

I was born in South Gate and, since I'm white, couldn't go back there without four or five interpretors and body armor.

Proud to be a Yankee Doodle American.

Bajafun777 - 6-2-2007 at 06:27 PM

Live down by the Mexican Border by Mexicali. Living in Brawley and have been here for almost 40 years but soon, very soon that will all change;). Will be on the road in my truck and 5th wheel traveling all of the U.S. first year and then on to Baja, Mainland Mexico, Beliez, and then travel back down to Costa Rica and then Panama. I really liked Costa Rica as well as Los Mochis and Maztalan but in any case will be leaving California before they can think of any more stupid S$$t to do with our tax dollars or allow to be done here:mad:. Later---------------bajafun777

Temple City, Pasadena, San Gabriel, El Monte, Hanford, Fresno, Kingsburg, Cresent City, Oxnard, Camarillo, Culver City, Palms, Westwood, Burbank, Arcadia, East Los Angeles, Carmel, Monterey, Big Sur, Sacramento, Alburn, Avenal, Coalinga, Davis, Calexico, Imperial Beach, Pebble Beach, Fort Ord, Camp Cooke, Altadena, Redlands ---think we covered it!

Those are the places one or both of us have lived in California in the past 60 years, and they don't include the other CA--Central America where we lived in Juticalpa, Honduras and Guatemala City.

Oh, also we now have a place in another California --- Baja Sur---Bahia Asuncion.

Dang, maybe someday we will settle down in one place---doubt it.

Diane and John

On edit, forgot one--- this was fun, we didn't realize there were so many places.

Sallysouth - 6-2-2007 at 09:31 PM

Wow , so I would think that you were working as a police/man, person then? Wouldn't it be a kick if we knew each other back then? This may need to become a U2U so as not to mess up this poll thread.I skied every day of the weekday and traded my time working in the daycare center in BV for daycare for my youngest on the weekends. My older girls went to the BV school(population 32, grades kinder to 6th) and skied for their P.E.! We lived in the A frame right up BV road for the first few years. I'll bet you know who i am/was......U2U me? Sally:lol::?::saint:

Orange County ...."The OC" from the time it was a rural faming community though it's growth to a populated mess.

Retired and live on a hill, the only hill, overlooking the blue Pacific in Pismo Beach in the middle of a mild Micro Climate, never too hot never too cold...Life it good, life is great.

Why I have left these two paradises roamed around dusty, hot, muddy Baja for the past 56 years- GOK! ..........
Perhaps Sir Robert Service provided the answer --a modern Sam Mc Gee-- "...Why he left his home in Plum Tree down in Tennessee to roam around Nome God only knows..."

Fullerton, when it was all agricultural, and when there was only one open freeway, and we used to use the unopened, underconstruction one for night time drag races!!!! Spent my teenage years with friends running off to Baja (only Tijuana to Ensenada) for not the most wholesome of reasons, but as often as possible.

Then Marin County and Stinson Beach where I don't have to worry about the shark attacks because I can't cope with the hypothermia.

Working my way south...to Loreto.

Sure-- though my intent was to gather general statistics, not life confessions.

I've lived in California a total of 6 years, high school in Orange county and a couple of years as an adult due to various quirks of fate. Long enough to have a feel for the place but not so long as to have an emotional connection. To the contrary: I believe that Santa Barbara north is a different tune, but Southern Cal, at least, is one of the last places on earth I would choose to live: "Bods of gods, hearts of stone".

--Larry

Larry,

I find these posts more interesting that just a poll. Actually, I didn't see the poll form when I first posted. Apparently nobody else did either. Obviously most of the Californians who responded can relate to lots of locations mentioned.

Regarding living in Southern California, I agree with you. Notice in my post I said "I escaped" from L.A. at 19.

By the way, a Life's Confessions topic could really be interesting. Maybe keep it to Baja. There have been variations of this posted here from time to time...always interesting. :wow::O

N. Carolina, Missouri, Texas, Virginia, Oahu, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, El Toro, Huntington Beach, San Clemente, Oceanside, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano so far........just realized that 11 years in SJC is by far the longest I have ever lived in one place by almost 5 years.

Skipjack Joe - 6-3-2007 at 10:03 PM

That's a great picture of the town, Ken. I've walked on that wall before and it's thickness is really impressive. Actually, I was born on the Adriatic, about 60 miles south of Dubrovnik in a town called Kotor. Kotor was hot stuff 800 years ago and had it's own kingdom as I recall. It also has ancient stone buildings and walls but they're deep inside a fjord and not the tourist attraction that is Dubrovnik. If you have a picture of Kotor please post it. I would like others to see it's beauty.

Some of the more scenic places have become a playground of the rich. The islands have been converted to casinos. My fear is the Conception Bay will have a similar fate some day as the seascape is similar. There is still time to protect baja.

found it:

I used to work in a shop in Montana, was conversing with a customer one day when a third person came in. She stopped short, looked me in the eye, and said "Chicago!" I hadn't been there for years, and had no idea that I had an accent. It never goes away... your wife will always sound as sweet as she does today. And probably she knows, as I do, that those of us from Chicago don't have accents ;)

Temple City dates were 85-86.

Looks like there are a few Central Coasters on the board.

What could be better than Montana in the summer?
Where did you live there, and where in Chicago? And upstate NY? We have kids in Ithaca. My son-in-law is from West Valley, near Buffalo.

Born in Oregon-5th generation: San Jose (Meridian Ave Apts) Foster City (s.f. bay area) Burlingame, Pasadena. Then back to Oregon in the early 70's. Lived in California long enough to know why everyone is leaving there & moving to Oregon!!!!! Don't have to smoke in southern California to have lung problems. Drove up to Mt. Wilson observatory after moving to Pasadena. One look at that dark brown cloud, hanging over L.A. and I was making plans to get "out of Dodge"!!!!!!!!!!

Fremont - in another century

I retired in 1998 and moved from Fremont, California, to San Felipe.

Here is where it gets weird. I lived about the same 4 block distance from Bajalou in Fremont, as I do in San Felipe, and didn't meet him till we moved to San Felipe.

My dad was in the air force stationed at Castle Air Force Base (now defunct) near Merced and Yosemite. We used to go camping and fishing there all summer long. Yum. I miss those fresh river trout for breakfast! Then we moved to Puerto Rico (another defunct air force base) and then to Utah (brrr). Now I live in Long Beach and work in Orange County. But my heart is always in Baja!

Lived in Helena while in MT, Southside Chicago back in the good old days of the late 1950's and Oswego while in Upstate New York in the early 60's.
Loved all those places equally!

You have a great point on Montana in the summer and since I still have family up that way I think a road trip is in order ! My goal is to keep my boat here in Santa Cruz for our gorgeous indian summers and the holidays , Baja for shivering months of Jan and Feb, back to Santa Cruz for spring then XXXXXXXX for a few months of good sunshine and gardening somewhere less crowded and more affordable than Santa Cruz.
