Any opinions or personal experience with Mex drivers insurance only in Baja, as I live in AZ and frequent both Baja & Sonora.
Taking a truck & bike has required 2 different policies and since the bike can only have liability coverage anyway I dont see the pointin
carrying 2 policies when 1 drivers only policy will provide liability coverage on either 1, at least enough to keep you out of the localjail in case
of an accident.
Google search turned up several Mex sites that offer 6 month's driver only policies in the $150.00 per 6 month's range.
Any thought's or horror stories?

Have use drivers license insurance for many years. The rate I've been paying is $58 a year plus $25 for legal if you want that. Total $83 a year.
Used to get it thru one of the clubs, but changed and have used ADA-Vis for a long time now. No claims so don't know how that would work but I'm
happy.
This is liability only.

I use the same policy and agent.

It is the least costly way to go. Like Lou, never had a claim --thank God, but hope I never have to either
DL Insurance
MrBillM - 6-3-2007 at 12:59 PM
I've been buying mine through Linda Bilyeu in San Felipe for four years now. The last renewal in October was $172.00 yearly for both my wife and
myself. Sounds like Lou is getting a better deal.Bajajack - 6-3-2007 at 01:04 PM
I didn't realize it could be that cheap, guess I better do some more shopping!capt. mike - 6-3-2007 at 01:34 PM
do you have to have a mexican issued drivers license to get this??
my neighbor in mulege does that, insures his DL but he says it only works when you have a mex DL, and that takes an FM3 which i didn;t get yet.
pls clarify!
a great idea too.
U.S. License
MrBillM - 6-3-2007 at 01:45 PM
No, Our insurance is issued on a U.S. license and covers any U.S. registered vehicle we might be driving. Whether ours covers a Mex-Licensed vehicle,
I haven't a clue. It's never occurred to me to check. Although we both have FM-3s, we've never seen a reason to get a Mex License, even though it is
fairly easy in San Felipe.
Addendum to Capt Mike:
I'm told that ALL of the Mex Insurance policies issued require the vehicle to be currently registered, but I haven't seen it in writing.

thx Bill
my rig has expired registration, does that invalidate the liability coverage for others if i am driving it?Bajajack - 6-3-2007 at 01:49 PM
From what I see online it covers a USA drivers license in a USA registered vehicle, but from what I'm reading it does not cover Motorcycles, it seem's
they would have to be a seperate policy.
That's what I'm trying to get away from.bajalou - 6-3-2007 at 01:55 PM
Believe mine covers ANY vehicle registered outside Mexico.

This policy seems to be the same general terms as 3-4 others I just checked, no Motorcycles & no Motorhomes.
Driver's License Policies
Genworth Seguros
Our driver's license policy is offered by Genworth Seguros. This type of policy is convenient if you wish to simply have liability coverage to drive
different vehicles. This policy does not cover physical damage, theft, or roadside assistance. In essence, this policy covers one driver, not a
vehicle, but certain criteria apply:
* Annual policy only
* Limits of liability (this pays third parties) offered: US $50,000, US $70,000 or US $100,000
* Medical payments for occupants of the insured vehicle of US $2,000 per person up to US $10,000 or US $5,000 per person up to US $25,000 per
accident
* Legal aid and bail bond
* One driver per policy
* Valid for autos, trucks, vans, SUVs
* Motorcycles and motorhomes are not eligible
* Other “high risk” and luxury vehicles may not eligible (we can request permission in some cases; call us at 1.888.552.2252)
* No Mexican plated vehicles or Mexican driver’s licenses are eligible
* Rental vehicles may not be driven under this type of policybajalou - 6-3-2007 at 02:54 PM
Got my renewal reminder a couple days ago
"We would like to inform you that ADA VIS Global is now licensed in most states and represent several specialty RV Insurance Companies. All of our
companies extend physical damage coverage into Mexico provided you carry a valid Mexican Liability Policy."CaboRon - 6-4-2007 at 07:31 AM

I was recently quoted
ninety dollars per year for the policy through Vagabundos.Bajajack - 6-4-2007 at 10:16 AM
If anyone has a Drivers License only policy it might be wise to check the fine print, you may not be covered.
After checking with 6 different sites I've found non of them cover Motorcycles or Motorhomes.
They all say any vehicles driven on the quote page, but after digging a little deeper into the fine print they all say the same thing:
Valid for autos, trucks, vans and SUV's only.
Motorcycles and Motorhomes are not eligible.
YEP
MrBillM - 6-4-2007 at 10:31 AM
That's what my policy says.
Not having or contemplating buying a motorcycle, it is a non-issue for me.Bajajack - 6-4-2007 at 10:38 AM
Yes, but how many are out there driving Motorhomes under the impression they are covered.
One little accident and it could be a rude awakening.bajalou - 6-4-2007 at 11:01 AM
And remember, all policies are void if driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.Bajajack - 6-4-2007 at 12:01 PM
