Although I had seen the Documentary last year, I watched again tonight and was reminded that the outcome of the war was typical of so many historical
and present day events in Mexico.
Santa Ana and his 20K troops were on the verge of winning the battle of Buena Vista against Zack Taylor's decimated force of 4K (mostly volunteers)
and he gets word that the militias formed to defend the capital while the Army was fighting the Americans are all fighting one another for control of
the country. Santa Ana is ordered to return and put down the militias, losing the last opportunity for victory.bajadock - 6-5-2007 at 09:15 AM
Just beginning my personal march through Mexican history. I see David K's lists and a few others. I especially enjoy the smaller stories of history,
like MrBillM's Buena Vista. My personal nugget is Battallon de San Patricios, for us Micks. Any more recommendations on reading material specific to
Baja history appreciated.bajaguy - 6-5-2007 at 09:20 AM
