If Nomad crashed

Baja Bernie - 6-5-2007 at 09:24 AM

Okay! I wonder what your responses would be if you went to the internet to get your daily Baja fix and instead, just kept receiving the message………….THIS PAGE CAN NOT BE DISPLAYED.

No cussing please! :?::?::?::?::?:

Alan - 6-5-2007 at 09:27 AM

I've learned to cope not cuss when the water goes off for a few days, or when the power goes off, when the tire goes flat, when there is no tecate at the store, when the horse gets in the garden, but Nomad down.....Ahhhhh...panic attack....breath deeply shari....don't worry, it'll be back soon to humor you. Really amigos...Nomad ROCKS! and I'm sooo glad it's part of my life. Keep it up Doug. mil gracias

Cypress - 6-5-2007 at 11:16 AM

Might not be a bad idea to jot down some e-mail addresses.:o

Gnome-ad - 6-5-2007 at 11:29 AM

I just looged on and saw this new thread ... glad I didn't try earlier when it was down and the termite & dry rot guy was crawling around under our house. I might have thought that the termites had invaded my new space. As it is no termites, and the forum was here. Whew!

Gnome-ad - 6-5-2007 at 11:34 AM

Tried to edit the above but didn't quite know how to get it posted. Sorry about the "looging" - not a pretty sight!

zforbes - 6-5-2007 at 11:36 AM

Well, I can reconstruct Off Topic and the conversations that go on there with no difficulty, since the same players reiterate their parts ad infinitum and I've leaned most of them by heart. So Off Topic is covered.

But the real thing? Maybe we need to develop a fall back plan...you know, maybe pick an alternate site to descend upon when Nomad is down...say...what is that other board called???? BajaPet? BajaSet...oh yes, BajaNet! Yes, Nomads could meet there when our site is down...

CaboRon - 6-5-2007 at 12:36 PM

At first I started to debug my computer .... then realized it was only this site....... Sound like the servers were overloaded with all the hot air being generated. :bounce: CaboRon

Nomad Crashed ?

MrBillM - 6-5-2007 at 12:59 PM

Sounds like a lot of addicts went through Withdrawal.

When ? For Awhile ?

It appears that some start their NOMAD day early.

Bajabus - 6-5-2007 at 01:07 PM

I can always tell when Doug's servers go down because all my sites hosted with him also are down along with their e-mail.

It does not happen often and fortunately when it does it's not for long. This mornings was the longest in memory.

Iflyfish - 6-5-2007 at 01:23 PM

Whew, my shaking has now stopped!

Did some sand get in the works there? Spill a cervesa on the old console? Get some smoke in the works? Threaten to sharpen a pencil in it? (that always works with my puter, graphite terrifies them!)

oldhippie - 6-5-2007 at 02:43 PM

we could just start over from here:

capt. mike - 6-5-2007 at 04:38 PM

ha! just check anyone of the DOZENS of mex and baja related websites around - nothing exclusive here.
the internet is fun, for fun, nothing to get emotionally tied to - those that do need to get a real life.
take this too seriously and you will develop social pathos at some time.

there are way better things to do than angst over a web page availability, like get out and do real live things!!
i will go to baja friday for example and live the life!

Why is it, the people with airplanes don't have Baja withdrawals:biggrin:

I want my BNF (Baja Nomad Forums)!

David K - 6-5-2007 at 08:10 PM

As in "I want my MTV"

Yes, Nomad was off line this morning, so I actually got to work on time!:light:

Seriously, maintaing this site with its now gigantic traffic load (sorry Capt. Mike, but this isn't like other Baja discussion forums) takes a lot of time, effort and money.

Please keep Baja Nomad alive and strong by purchasing items from the Tienda at Baja Nomad, clicking on to the Google ads, using BajaBound.com for online Mexican insurance purchases, and even contributing... Baja Nomad is better than any magazine or newspaper about Baja and it is here every day,.... for free!

Support Doug any way you can and help him keep Baja Nomad online for us all!:light::light::light::yes::yes::yes:

Because I was in a meeting this morning that I couldn't walk out of the middle of. :fire:

First time I can recall that it's been an issue in the middle of one of my morning meetings.

"forums.bajanomad.com" is actually a different physical machine than "www.bajanomad.com" and "tienda.bajanomad.com" are - and the "forums.bajanomad.com" server itself was still online... only the other server points the "forums.bajanomad.com" traffic here, and it was that server that went offline.

So, as soon as the meeting ended this morning I had the systems back up about 15 minutes later.

I'm upgrading the other server at the present time as well, so this should be a non-continuing issue going forward.

For the most part, most of the overloading is now caused by the handling of spam email - the processing and filtering of it.

Sorry everyone.

Thanks for your understanding.

Regards,

Bernie - thats why i got that OTHER option - to stay in touch with those who matter most.
I created a substitute - in case the drug is withdrawn from the market!! :dudette:

Iflyfish - 6-6-2007 at 02:33 AM

Doug, thank you for your work on this awesome forum. And thanks to DK for the info on how to order my shirts.

This major response to this slight " hick-up " must be music to Doug's ears.:o:o:P:P:lol::lol:

Not to Worry

Baja Bernie - 6-6-2007 at 07:10 AM

:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

Wow! After reading Captain Mikes verbal slapping of myself and fellow Nomads I almost deleted my original post—a thing that I frankly dislike when anyone does it. To me it is a bit like revising history—you know like our politicians and others do to cover their tracks.

Thanks Captain for slapping me back into reality. I guess I will call and have you wisk me off into the clouds far above the worry’s of the masses huddled far below. Nah! Really have far too many things, except money, to do to work that into my schedule.

Thank you Doug for continuing to feed our collective addiction and allow us to escape the mundane existence that we would otherwise be forced to endure.

I would say that this addiction [is] a rather healthy one that allows all who contribute to help others, to learn, to laugh, to lighten the boredom, and yes--even for some to feel superior.

Like I always say, "Baja is about Friends Helping Friends!" Thanks to all of you for you for the for all of the help. I'm sure you know that I really need it just to be able to continue to laugh with and at life.

Edit added the word [is] for we all now know just how important that simple little word is--IS!

Have a great day! I sure is.

Editing Post

CaboRon - 6-6-2007 at 08:39 AM

How so you edit your own post. I have wanted to do it several times. Thanks, CaboRon

Diver - 6-6-2007 at 08:41 AM

Click the EDIT button at the top-right of your post.

bajalou - 6-6-2007 at 08:42 AM

On your posts, in the upper right are three buttons - "Edit", "Quote" and "Report" - Just click on the "Edit" and there you are.

CaboRon - 6-6-2007 at 08:43 AM

Thankyou, CaboRon :bounce:

amir - 6-6-2007 at 09:50 AM

Question about editing: What happens if somebody quotes a post, but then the original post is deleted? It seems to me that once a quote is published, the original source post should not be able to be deleted, or edited. Rewriting history can have very confusing consequences...

History

CaboRon - 6-6-2007 at 10:02 AM

Yes, history is written by the victor, not the vanquished. I remember when I first read "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and realized my history classes were largly hogwash.. CaboRon

amir - 6-6-2007 at 10:31 AM

Yes CaboRon, the point you make is about the victors and the consequence of rewriting history. My question was more of a practical nature about this Board. Here, it is the "vanquished" that would be erasing or editing their own history, giving the "victor" more opportunity to fabricate or distort the past.

Great! This is a great thing about the internet ....... it gives everyone a chance to express their truths ........ It is a great time on this planet .... communication is finally in the hands of everyone.... CaboRon

Baja Bernie - 6-6-2007 at 05:45 PM

Really agree with you here as you can see by my post.

amir if someone deletes at the head of the post it makes for much confusion because it ends up having no starting points--just ending points and folks don't care for this.

If someone deletes at some later point that is not so bad because the original post has more than likely morphed into an entirely different post that will be unaffected by the deletion.. I think!........ Perhaps!.......You think!
