Truck/Boat Ripped-off in Ensenada 6-03-07

Roasty - 6-7-2007 at 10:19 AM

Was driving back from BOLA on Sunday, stopped off in Enenada for Banos and Taco's, tried to get into the secure parking at San Nicolas but Score was using it for the 500. Parked 2 streets off the main drag and 30 mins later - gone...My 2005 Navy Blue F-250 diesel longbed supercab (Lic: BAHIA BC), and my 2006 SeaPro 22CC white/white with 175 Mercury Verado. Truck also had 3 generators on back (covered with tarp) (Honda 5000E, 3000E and coleman 350)All my rods/reels/gear too.
Will post photos.
Appreciate any info.

Cheers
Keith.

Not a good day for sure....there have been many problems recently during race weekends with vehicle break-in and total theft....

Bob H - 6-7-2007 at 10:32 AM

How Awful! Good luck on recovering your stuff. Wow, so sorry to hear this.

Holy smokes Keith,
I am really sorry to hear that. I hope you can get some sort of compensation.
I worry about this all the time. Yesterday i drove through Ensenada and was hungry but decide to push on to a place where i could stand next to my (much more humble) rig and keep watch while I scarfed some tacos.

The rage and feeling of violation actually overwhelms all of the other feelings that occur when something like this happens. You work, you scrimp, you save, you purchase carefully and you have a part of your heart poured in to your collection of those things which are a reflection and a part of you and some slimeball:fire:comes along to make a little drug money or whatever and completely wipes out all of that in the matter of a few minutes.
When I had my boat taken years ago at Los Muertos I felt all of that and more. I drove back streets in La Paz looking for the slimeball that had done this to me and started to find my perception of people and a culture that I had experienced nothing but warm feelings for radically disappear and replace itself with feelings of suspicion and anger.
Hopefully some kind of resolution will occur here.

tripledigitken - 6-7-2007 at 12:30 PM

Keith,

So sorry to hear of your loss. I can't imagine how it must feel.

Please keep us posted as to how your insurance claim worked out.

Hate to think that stopping in Ensenada is a high risk option.

I've had things stolen from me and know that feeling all too well. I hope that catch the scum that did this to you, and by a miracle you get back all that rightfully is yours.

Cypress - 6-7-2007 at 12:52 PM

Georock! You said it! I agree.:D

Hook - 6-7-2007 at 03:23 PM

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Were there any particular types of theft protection devices that you were using that they managed to get around?

Gadget - 6-7-2007 at 06:50 PM

So sorry Keith,
please post photos ASAP so we can keep an eye.

DENNIS - 6-7-2007 at 08:03 PM

What a bunch of crap. It's going to happen that an important business in Ensenada will be Security. We will have to buy safety and security.
What has this fishing village become?

Debra - 6-7-2007 at 08:12 PM

Dang! All the years I've been traveling to Baja, a woman with a small child alone...........I've been asked over and over again by friends and newbies on the board "is it safe?" I've always said YES!, NOT A PROBLEM" last year 2 of my friends were shot on Mex 1, one murdered! within a week of each other (what are the chances that I would know both of these people?) I have to ask the question of myself "am I safe, is my son safe?"

For the first time on my last trip down in March, I felt on edge, I was looking at everyone I saw with a different eye.......I didn't stop for hitch-hikers left in the desert, I didn't stop for broken down cars...........I don't what to pass a person in need, I never have before.......but, now I canchance putting myself and my young son in j

Debra - 6-7-2007 at 08:16 PM

woops...........hit the wrong button.............point is, I'm not as comfortable as I always was..........METH IS A BAD,BAD THING! and that is what is going on, even in the little villages of Baja, it scares me!

Frank - 6-7-2007 at 10:27 PM

Yes Bruce its a 22' boat with a center console.

bajadogs - 6-7-2007 at 11:00 PM

Keith - post pix of your rig ASAP.
You have a lot of eyeballs on the Nomads forum.

I've been ripped off, but not like that! What a nightmare!

Mike99km - 6-8-2007 at 07:38 AM

Boy does that suck or what. I"m down about every other weekend, post a picture and I'll keep a eye out.
I would like to know how the Ins. comes through and did you report it your U,S. carrier. Most cover the first 100 miles in Mexico and home owners will cover some of the fishing gear.

Minnow - 6-8-2007 at 07:45 AM

I hate to say it but your rig was probably taken by the police. They pulled a tow truck up and hauled it away. Probably under the auspices of a parking matter. When you reported it they forgot that they had it. Well actually the person you talked to didn't know they had taken it because it takes a couple of days for any paperwork to be completed. The chief of police probably has a new boat right now, or a truck, and the rest of the loot has been spread around to his minions. All of this is acceptable and legal in Mexico.

Roberto - 6-8-2007 at 07:48 AM

Guys, the reality is that race week in Ensenada is robbery central. Chase vehicles, with trailers and sometimes the race car on the trailer have disappeared now for the last few years. Sometimes they are (partially) recovered at other times now. On the racecourse, stuck vehicles in out-of-the-way spots have been stripped within minutes if left unguarded even for short periods.

This ain't Kansas anymore.

Minnow - 6-8-2007 at 07:54 AM

Check out

www.race-dezert.com for mucho reports on things that were stolen during race weekend.

vandenberg - 6-8-2007 at 07:57 AM

Ensenada has been a bad place to stop for many years. Even the San Nicolas ,supposedly safe parking, was no good to some friends, who lost electronics and their fighting chair from their boat. Everything was rebuttoned down, so they didn't notice it till well on the way to Loreto. " Security in on it ??". Another friend ,in the 80's, had his 250 crewcab broken into while having lunch. Lost everything that was locked in it. Gear, coolers, paperwork etc.and was parked right on the main waterfront drag. And I know of many other bad experiences there. I have made it a rule to stay with the vehicle whenever my wife decides to HAVE to shop for something.

Security in Baja and elsewhere

Lee - 6-8-2007 at 08:25 AM

I can't imagine the loss here. For what it's worth, I've never had such a total loss as this situation but I've had breakins. There is at least one thing people can do to cut the losses.

I have to assume that there was no alarm/security system on the truck? An alarm, triggered by someone breaking in, would have detered a thief, and a ''kill switch'' -- a device that disables the engine from starting -- would have prevented the thiefs from driving off. Was there an alarm on this truck? Can't speak for the boat -- things could have been stolen off of it.

For cars, pickups, anything motorized that can be broken into and driven off -- PUT AN ALARM SYSTEM ON IT. $300 will buy a basic system. It'll pay for itself at the first attempted break-in.

:(

Hook - 6-8-2007 at 09:37 AM

Here's another option for a diesel. Pull the fuse for the PCM module.

I also use a device that freezes the brake. Fords must have the brakes depressed to release the steering lock and the ignition.

But nothing will stop a police department tow for the Chief...

jettygirl - 6-8-2007 at 10:25 AM

kill switch hidden someplace inside the vehicle ... may not stop them but might slow them down some ...but as hook said above nothing will stop a tow for the police dept.:mad::mad:

just hate reading these kinds of posts but am thankfull the news gets through.

doradodan - 6-9-2007 at 07:21 AM

saw vehicle described heading south to san felipe. might wanna check with nomads in SF

Roasty - 6-9-2007 at 10:28 AM

Truck had an alarm that was activated by me. Doors were locked, stuff in cab was all covered and out of sight.
Pic of boat attached.
Thanks for your support.

Roasty - 6-9-2007 at 10:35 AM

Well I clicked on attachments, selected a picture (38KB), but no attachment ??

Roasty - 6-9-2007 at 02:05 PM

The FAQ says in order to add an attachment, you use the "UPLOAD' field.
I see nothing in the "post-reply' window that says 'UPLOAD"
Any help would be appreciated.

bajalou - 6-9-2007 at 02:13 PM

It says "Browse" at the bottom of the page - select picture address then "Post Reply"

How much for the blonde?

I think one would have to ask, where would you sell/hide a boat like that? A good PI would probably know where to start looking. Don't we have one that lives in Ensenada?

Hey Roastie, any follow up on this post?

DENNIS - 6-17-2007 at 11:25 AM

That boat is probably in Cozumel about now.

NAFTA = North American Free Truck Agreement

Packoderm - 6-17-2007 at 10:46 PM

One thing that we can be fairly certain about the creep who stole your truck and boat is that he has reduced moral capacity (He's not quite human.) due to reduced mental capability from complications during his birth because his mother's birth canal was obstructed by massive genital warts due to her promiscuous lifestyle. The thief and his mother will meet each other in hell and be force fed methamphetamine for eternity as a form of ironic punishment to befit their nasty living while in this world. I can't think of anything else that would apply to such human garbage, and I wish he knew that some of us feel that way about the type of scum he is.

Packoderm - 6-17-2007 at 10:54 PM

I noticed that you ended your original post with "cheers," so perhaps I was a bit hasty to speak on you behalf, but it's still how I feel about such violators.

Cheers !

Roasty - 6-18-2007 at 09:01 AM

Well you know us Brits, Churchill, Thatcher, et al ....as they taught us in school....... keep your chin-up !
And always look on the bright-side.....we could have been mugged, attacked for the truck and boat.

DENNIS - 6-18-2007 at 10:17 AM

What's all that have to do with a bar in Boston?
