GREAT HOTEL find in La Paz with WiFi coffee shop AND KILLER restaurant near by...AND reasonable...AND...

CasaManzana - 6-9-2007 at 12:08 AM

Just back from La Paz and boy-o-boy did we find a great place to stay? For years we have been loyal to the Gardenias Hotel because mostly of the moderate price….now 500 pesos however. The new find, called the Hotel Mediterrane is a few bucks more ($650) BUT you have DSL WiFi in your room and a gourmet coffee shop on the first floor. http://www.purpleroofs.com/hotelmediterrane-mx.html Not only that but the breakfast menu is so great- fruit plates and granola stuff that is usually hard to find, plus the regular things as well. Good beds…yep…hot water..yep…quiet…yep…TV/CD player…yep…secure parking…nope- street parking is the only drawback. And another feature- just up the street is the very best Chinese restaurant in all of Mexico…trust me on this. It’s called the Dragon de Oro. I come from San Francisco so I think I otta know. Once you hit the main drag (malicon) turn right at about the third street, just where the dolphin-mermaid statue is…it’s in the middle of the first block and the great Dragon de Oro is just at the next corner up the hill. :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Sounds like a nice enough place but not for anyone with physical limitations or the geriatrics among us.

are we talking about the chinese restaurant above the pastry shop???

No...not above the bakery or above anything-

CasaManzana - 6-9-2007 at 06:37 PM

The restaurant is HUGE, maybe 25 tables with some set up for 6 and 8. The restaurant building looks to be very new, as does the tables and chairs. It's right on the corner just a few doors up past the hotel I'm recommending. The building is single story ground floor and painted light yellow. It was so outstanding we went back for a second night and found it every bit as good.

Yeah, That one above the pastry shop REALLY sucks! The people I go down there with seem to like it though. Now I'll show them. THANX

Lencho....the one they're talking about is Dragon de Oro that used to be on Cinco de Mayo (one block off the Malecon) & the food was rarely served hot there:no::no:....I've eaten at their new place & the food has been served hot everytime! It is a pretty good place...well, by MY standards!:tumble::spingrin:

Stayed there on my last trip to La Paz $75 U.S. for two. There is secure parking for motorcycles inside the small courtyard and they have a computer in the coffeeshop/lobby you can use for free. It's kinda like a little Greek Island building crammed in on a side street, very handy location.

I discovered the hotel about l997. AND their restaurant. The food was GREAT!!!!!!! And what the heck their gender is???? Who cares????
You'll not go wrong with their quality of food!!!! And I don't think any of the guests that were there were gay. We have two gay friends in Oregon, and we always enjoy visits to their home. Their culinary skills are astounding. One of them is a highschool classmate. They both "hate" gays. Hate their militant stance. Just two guys that love each other, and are not gay in appearance or mannerisms.
try both the restaurant and hotel. You won't be disappointed.
Writing this from Hannibal Mo where Mark Twain did his writing of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn. Wonderful place. No we didn't stay at the Mark Twain Hotel. Didn't know about it until we got here?????

Well, I did take the tip and we ate there last night...The food was OK.... but hardly the best Chinese in all of Mexico.

Have you been to Tijuana or Mexico city?

Isn't their restaurant called La Patza? It was recommended to me to eat there even if I wasn't staying there.
