Nomad Cigar Smokers... technique

Bob H - 6-14-2007 at 10:07 PM

I found myself smoking yet another fine cigar tonight and realized that I have developed a habit when I finish smoking my cigar.

A fine cigar is made up of three types of tobacco leaves, (1) a Filler, (2) a Binder, and (3) a Wrapper. The combination of these three contribute to the particular flavor and burn of a fine cigar.

So, here's my habit... when I get down to the small stogie at the end of the smoke, I break the stubbie down and separate the three types of tobacco. Being the "smeller of things" that I am... I then light each one to smell the different aromas of each component. Quite an interesting result each time. Then I let it all smolder in the ash tray like incense.

How many other Nomads do this? Or, am I just weird?

Bob, I've enjoyed many a good cigar, but that is a new one for me.

Iflyfish - 6-14-2007 at 10:23 PM

Reminds me of an Andre Credesque letter to the editor in Atlantic Monthly a few years ago. Reviewing an article from a prior issue that was essentially a rehash, or update of My Dinner With Andre, lots of descriptions of food, table settings etc, lean on philosophy and exquisitly boring. He said that it was about as interesting as the sex on the mustache of the guy sitting accross from him on the train going to London for his monday morning commute.

Thought you might savor that story along with your cigar.

I think you may be weird, but now I'll have to try it.

Bob ----

If everybody did that with the last bite of a McDonalds burger, they wouldn't be able to give them away.

Weird? Yes. Of course. Arn't we all?

4baja - 6-15-2007 at 06:31 AM

bob, me and my buddy bo used to see how far down we could smoke them and use a tooth pick at the end to get the last bit of tobaco. who ever lasted the longest without the fire going out had to buy the other guy a beer. but you still are weird.

capt. mike - 6-15-2007 at 06:33 AM

don't worry Bob, you just need to seek counseling, that's all......probably a 12 step program out there for you someplace.............

smoke it, stub it out when done.....and fugetaboutit! that's all you need to do.
anything else is obsessive/compulsive behavior.....you must get professional help before it evolves into more serious manefestations:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Mexitron - 6-15-2007 at 08:42 AM

My only suggestion would be to break off a stub before you smoke it--that way the tobacco isn't saturated with tars--might be a better incense!

Iflyfish - 6-15-2007 at 08:43 AM

I laughed so hard at this one, couldn't help but share it with a friend who has an eating disorder. His response:

"I like to utliize a similar technique when I burn my trash - The various components can be EXQUISITE!!"

Maybe you can take the post-smelled ash and make a dandy tea.

It was a Padron 1964 Anniversery cigar (with Maduro wrapper)... a very special cigar indeed!

But, I do this with every cigar that I finish. My wife always blurts out "Don't burn the house down!" :fire::lol:

QUALITY tobaccos if used in ceegars DON"T stink!!
many have a nut like fragrance, some approach that of good pipe burn.
but, GOOD cigars aren't cheap, even at wholesale. plus, they need to be fresh when consumed which affects burn and aroma.
so, those stinking up the house with crummy cheap stogs offend those who are then impressed for life.

many a time i have had a person be surprized and ask what is that cigar and that its aroma is very nice.
i just smile and say its a swisher.......they have no idea...

kodiak - 6-16-2007 at 07:18 PM

How right you are Mike! I will bring my humidors with me when I head down your direction. Maybe we can enjoy a couple of fine stogies. I wonder how many I am allowed to bring INTO Mexico????

capt. mike - 6-17-2007 at 05:13 AM

you can bring a lot!

but, if you're driving, stop in ensenada there is a very good cigar store, i think close to a wine shop, walk in humi, the worx - some one here will say where it is i have only heard of it - but you could stop there and stock up for your ride down!

Iflyfish - 6-17-2007 at 05:46 AM

So I got a new metaphore, thanks,

There's a smoke shop on Lopez Mateos / First Street, called La Habana. They have another in the mall at La Bufadora, same name.

I agree that closed spaces and cigars are a bit much....but cigars have class and good ones are very expensive....farts on the other hand are a personal thing that are very disgusting....if you did that at my table we would have to call the fire department because I would put a torch to your ass....:smug:

mike odell - 6-19-2007 at 08:20 PM

Kellychapman!
This post was all in the name of humor, not humidor, I like a good Puro as well as the next, you see, just gotta find some fresh air to puff em!
