I was unable to get any kind of response from El Cortez, and I'm trying to reserve a room for one night. Anyone stay at the San Felipe Marina? Would
prefer quiet, restful place on the beach. Any suggestions? Many thanks,

No help here?
Geez, okay, then, I'll just sit in a bar and get drunk in San Felipe and hope that someone really nice and fun and sweet takes me home. And if I
spend the night in a sad, old Mexican bar...
...it will be all YOUR fault.woody with a view - 6-20-2007 at 11:08 AM

Think the SF Marina hotel would fill your needs - a little way from downtown but with a car - who cares?bajabound2005 - 6-20-2007 at 01:16 PM
this time of year I think ALL rooms will be quiet; it's too hot to be in San Felipe.

I'd guess Bajabound has it right - too hot for the hotels to fill up.
We've stayed at the Marina it is nice. We still care for the little something about watching the sun come up while on the dining patio of El Cortez.

The temperature ain't all that bad.
Summer is a busy time in San Felipe with all the Mexican people coming for the weekends (and sometimes week days). 15 deg cooler than Mexicali. It's
just that the gringos don't come much. Was downtown a couple weeks ago on Sat. night and the Malecon and Mar de Cortez were packed at 9pm.David K - 6-20-2007 at 05:12 PM
Why not use the San Felipe Official web site which has the hotels listed and CALL THEM??? http://www.sanfelipe.com.mx

Hi, David, yes, that was the website - and many of the numbers are not working - or something is wrong - even the Marina has been impossible to reach.
Having said that, I know I won't blame you if I have to resort to Plan B.
muchas gracias.David K - 6-21-2007 at 07:44 AM
Well, you tried!
Like others say, with as many hotels San Felipe has now, a room with a view should be a piece of cake!
Have fun!!!bajadogs - 6-21-2007 at 07:59 AM
I ran in to the same dead ends on the San Felipe web site. We are looking for the same thing Baja_Girl is seeking. We've had better luck in the past
just rolling into town and playing it by ear, checking out the different options. Plan B has become my Plan A. Bring on the heat!meme - 6-21-2007 at 08:01 AM
I live north of San Felipe, but do not stay at motels/hotels so pretty hard to give rccomendations! Bajalou is right tho. about Marina Resort. If I
had to make the choice between The El Cortez & Marina I would choose the Marina. I have had friends stay at El Cortez that did not enjoy there
stay there very much. If any races or Motorcycles are staying there it is VERY noisy! Toooo much traffic!! The last time I had a margarita at The
Barefoot Bar it was terrible!
I would NOT choose Plan B!Bajafun777 - 6-21-2007 at 08:29 AM
Baja_Girl, have gone down several times in the summer and had no problem just going into the El Cortez getting a room. It is just a room nothing
great and the Marina is nicer but is a ways from town. However, both have bars and both have cold ones so live is good!!! It is hot and locals do
come down but most camp out in all the little camp grounds around town. Hope you have a good trip and heat is heat what's in a few degrees as I live
by El Centro and in August the term "bring the heat" is down at about 120 degrees and water anywhere makes it better. Later--bajafun777bonanza bucko - 6-21-2007 at 05:34 PM
La Hacienda de la Langosta Roja...the Red Lobster hotel and restuarant is in town. You can find the web page here http://www.sanfelipelodging.com/
I would avoid the El Cortez..under new ownership and a little old, dirty, loud and not too good. We stayed there two months ago and were
disappointed. It used to be the best place in town but it's fallen on hard times. They said their credit card machine was "down" so we couldn't pay
that way. But our card number got used in Tuscon two days later to buy all kinds of stuff. El Cortez was the only place we used the card.
