Mexican National Surfing Competition Sept 19

Pstreet1 - 6-21-2007 at 04:06 PM

ROSARITO BEACH---For the first time in its history, the Mexican National Surfing Championships will be held in Rosarito Beach this Sept. 19 through Sept. 23, according to Alex Vega Meza, president of the Mexican Surfing Federation.

Vega announced the competition on June 19 at the Rosarito Beach Hotel, which will host the event.

Twenty-eight member teams of amateurs from each of Mexico’s 14 states will compete in 10 categories. They are the finalists from previous competitions held in Ixtapa and Cancun.

From the Rosarito event, a 28-member Mexican national team will be selected to compete at the Pan-American championships in November in Chile and the world championships next May in Portugal, Vega said.

At the September event in Rosarito, up to 40 entries will be accepted for an open competition which will feature trophies and prize money and be held in conjunction with the championships.

About 5,000 people are expected to attend the competition, which also will include contests, music and other entertainment, Vega said. Registration and other details are available at www.rosarito.org

Rosarito was chosen for this year’s championships because of its proximity to “California, the Mecca of surfing,” and because Rosarito city officials and business leaders were very supportive of the event, Vega said.

“And it has good waves,” Vega added of Rosarito, which includes famous K-38 among surfing spots along its 20 miles of coastline.

Is this a joke? You couldn't pay me to put my head under water off of Rosaroito's beaches. Maybe they meant to say somewhere near Rosarito...

don't worry about a national contest being held in the most polluted area of their country......

maybe the contestants can hop a bus to the border and make a dash north to "where the streets are paved with gold.":moon:

The Spirit of Surfing

It doesn't happen very often, but occasionally everything comes together for that perfect ride, not just a good ride, but an exquisite ride. A ride so perfectly in tune with the Spirit of Surfing that nothing is left wanting. You feel so utterly fulfilled, so completely at one with the world that if you should die at that moment it wouldn't seem like such a loss........

may you all get one!!!!

Oh, by Lazaro Card##as, lots of good mexican surfers there, like the Aburto's. I met a lot of the best US and mexican surfers in my Pipeline Surf Expedition days.
