Sorry for any confusion, by "Bets?", I did not mean; Would you like to post an idiotic, inane and totally irrelevant comment?

I meant; Would you care to make a gentleman's wager regarding the outcome of this pending contest?

By "gentleman's wager". we who have done this a few times before, mean that the loser will eventually find a means of delivering the proceeds to the winner. There are no strict rules regarding time frames. This is a matter of honor.

The "standard bet" has evolved into one liter of Cazadores tequila, But variations are open to consideration.

Of course this website has absolutely no involvement with any form of gambling. Any bets are strictly between individuals, most of whom have no idea of eaxh other's real names or actual means of transactions.

Damas are certainly welcome. The term "caballeras" is not in general usage although Charras is. From the looks of your avatar, you might qualify as either. By "a tequila", are we talking about the standard liter of Cazadores or a shot?

OK, you're on. That's two "serious" wagers so far, made and accepted: You and Dave, 1 liter ea. Cazadores on the Tri vs. me for same on USA.

Anyone else who wishes to make a real bet (with me or anyone else on the board), please clarify your intentions before 11am PST (I wanna watch the pre-game hype). Otherwise, all other extraneous comments will be considered "soplando humo por el culo."

Could not log back in for a few hours, seriously cutting into my gloat time. But what a great game! Better than any I've seen in awhile. Both sides played well and fought hard, charging out of the gate with no let up all the way through. Never a dull moment. Mexico and USA own the Gold Cup. Only once has another country, Canada, won. Otherwise it was Mexico or USA every time.

Dave and Ferna know where I live. Kate, unless you plan to visit AZ in the near future, it will probably have to wait until I visit La Paz. I seem to recall a certain Italian restaranteur there also owes me one...

Oso - 6-26-2007 at 07:05 PM

Rematch anyone?

It's too early to say as we are in different starting groups but a match-up could happen sometime after the first round of the Copa America going off now in Chavezuela. His Corpulence, el Presidente and former legend and cokehead par excelance, Diego Maradona, just rather flaccidly kicked off the first ball in the first game, Venezuela-Bolivia. Tomorrow, El Tri takes on Brazil, in P.Ordaz, tough pick out of the gate but hope springs eternal. Team USA confronts FORMER powerhouse Argentina Thursday in Maracaibo. Mexico is up against Chile on the 4th of July in P. La Cruz. Gringos take on Columbia 7/5 in either Barquismeto or Barinas, the official website lists both??? Quarterfinals start 7/7.

DENNIS - 6-26-2007 at 07:16 PM

Yeah........

Americas Cup. Donovan can't do it all but, if the USA teams up, they may get through the quarters.
Mexico shouldn't bother showing up till they replace their idiot coach who likes to say that if his team loses, it's not because of him, it's because they don't pay attention to him.
What a dope.

Oso - 6-26-2007 at 09:14 PM

OOPS. Sorry about that. No blasphemy intended.
I used to hold both pastimes in the same regard. For me, watching a televised sailboat race or futbol was like watching paint dry. I have since developed a healthy respect for the sport of soccer/futbol. Even the referees run faster and more than most NFL running backs and, they run sideways.
Sailboat racing may be complicated but how does the average Joe viewer relate to it? A piece of rope, or line as it must be called, coiled on the deck is worth more than my car.

Anyway, Copa America it is.

Oso - 6-27-2007 at 04:59 PM

Not sure the average Joe knows squat about sailing. Just remember those 12 meter racing machines are not some rich guy's playthings. They all have corporate sponsors. As for Cribs and other shows about multi-million dollar houses and yachts, I don't seek them out or spend too much time on them. But, sometimes while channel surfing, I might linger awhile just to see how the other 1% lives. My emotions vary. Sometimes it's just simple interest, especially if it shows imagination, innovation, good design or beautiful scenery, sometimes a twinge of envy, but often the mood degrades into revulsion at wretched excess and thoughts of the French Revolution and the excellent, practical and highly useful invention of the guillotine.

But back to the subject at hand, Univision at 5:30 pm, Mexico/Brazil, Same time tomorrow, USA/Argentina.

In general the Mexican players are individually much more skillful then their US counterparts, but somehow ,always try too hard to beat them. They are performing up to their ability in this game. However there's a half to go, so hang on to your hat.:P:P:tumble::tumble:

woody with a view - 6-27-2007 at 07:14 PM

Can't compare club football with international. The premier clubs in the world, wether from Europe or South America will make hash of international teams. The latter always have problems working as a team, whereas the former are playing together for a long season and maybe the whole team's individual players may not be as skilled, the team spirit will prevail.

Well, we're screwed. Not exactly a "Hallmark moment", what happens when you DON'T care enough to send your very best Why exactly did we send the "B" team to Venezuela? Was it because it was Venezuela and we don't like Chavez? Irregardless, we're done for the Copa America. Thursday's match against Columbia hardly matters. We are not going to the quarter-finals.

On the upside, my divided loyalties are no longer a problem.

Viva Mexico!!!!

DENNIS - 7-2-2007 at 06:47 PM

Yeah...... The B team had to be a political statement. Embarrassing too.

Viva Mexico!!!

Oso - 7-3-2007 at 06:15 PM

I MAY have spoken too soon (but I don't think so). Some sports pundits are saying we are ALMOST eliminated. I'd change that to ALL BUT. Theoretically, if we whip the snot out of Columbia on Thursday AND certain other matches work to our advantage, we could still make quarterfinals by the skin of our teeth.

True, Columbia is not what it once was with Pibe Balderrama and Loco Higuita, but Argentina isn't either and they still kicked our butt but good. Then we get the crap beat out of us by frikkin PARAGUAY?

I wonder if any other country sent their sukass second string? What a strategy!

Cinderella story? Perseverance? Through adversity to the stars? I wouldn't bet a shot of Cabo Wabo on it.

How can we win anything with eleven one-legged players who are in an environment which treats all of the players like George Bush?

vandenberg - 7-3-2007 at 06:54 PM

I always think that the only reason FIFA keeps the US up in the world ranking is to give the game a boost here. But the national team really is not up to snuff in the international market, a few players excepted. In reality there are probably 50 teams that they cannot beat, unless lucky, which of course is a major part of the game.:P:P;D;D

Oso - 7-5-2007 at 07:47 AM

Mexico-Chile 0-0, boooring. No change, already qualified El Tri advances. USA in need of a miracle today. Keller is a very good goalie, but he can't carry the whole thing by himself.:(

Adios Venezuela

Oso - 7-5-2007 at 05:48 PM

Columbia 1- USA 0. Progress, I guess. This time we didn't lose by MULTIPLE goals. Interesting little bit of petulance and confusion with the forced change in Columbian goalie at the last minute. Didn't help. We'll probably be on the plane home tonight. We didn't even bother to put in Keller for this one.

The Sub-20's youngsters may be worth a look. Mexico is 0-0 with Portugal at the half. We're up against Brazil tomorrow at 4:30 PST. (This is a new category of the World Cup restricted to players aged 19 years, 6 months, or younger at the start of competition.)

Ah youth, so wasted on the young... There is hope for the future. USA 2- Brazil 1 in the Under-20 World Cup, putting us at the top of our group and on to quarter-finals. Great game, more action than the old farts. Great teamwork, some really nice combinations.

Mexico takes on New Zealand Sunday.

What if USA wins the U-20 as well as the Gold Cup? A hat trick with the America Cup would have been incredible. But it definitely appears that there was a conscious decision to write that one off.

Oso - 7-8-2007 at 02:03 PM

MEXICO ON FIRE in the America Cup! 3-zip at the half, with a fatal error by the Paraguazo goalie committing an egregious foul in the zone within the first few minutes of the game. Earning himself a red card expulsion and serving up Mexico's first goal on a silver platter with an easy penalty shot by Neri Castiilo against the substitute. Then two more well placed goals, another one by Neri.

Did anyone catch why the ref ordered a Paraguayan player off the bench and out of the arena?

Oso - 7-8-2007 at 03:07 PM

LIKE A RENTED MULE! Mexico humiliates Paraguay 6-0. And it couldn't happen to nicer bunch of guys... Fighting dirty all the way, the Paraguazos richly deserved that a$$-whupping with yet another penalty goal by Cuahtemoc Blanco at the 40, followed by #6 by Omar Bravo. On to the semi-finals!

And in a few minutes the Tri Junior takes on New Zealand.

Argentina deservedly so, however the 3-nil score was very flattering for them. Uruguay should have been the other finalist being the better team in their match against Brazil. But such is soccer. like lots of other unfairness in our world.:P:P

JESSE - 7-12-2007 at 01:06 PM

I don't think theres a team in the world that would have beaten the Argentine team that played yesterday against Mexico. It is Argentinas best team in 15 years, and a serious contender for the next World Cup. Brasil doesn't stand a chance against Argentina, my prediction, Argentina 4 Brazil 1.

Oso - 7-15-2007 at 09:49 AM

Tri takes 3rd place, 3-1 over Uruguay in Copa America, Tri Jr. still alive in the under 20 Mundial. USA out in quarter final loss to Austria 1-2 despite valiant defense by goalie Chris Seitz who seemed to stop the ball with his face as often as his hands or other parts, visibly punch-drunk for a couple minutes there.

Brazil-Argentina later today in the CA final. Che's slightly favored but I'm pulling for the Cariocas just cuz I likes 'em better.

vandenberg - 7-15-2007 at 11:52 AM

The Uruguayan red card kind of ruined the game. Referees are often too fast issuing one and thus influencing the game severely. I thought that was the case here, and the outcome would surely have been different if he would have gotten a yellow with a severe warning.
On this afternoon's game, it surely would be more fun with a Brazilian A-team, with, amongst others, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Carlos in the line up. Still, can't underestimate Brazil. They have the most excellent players in the world, with a very large soccerplaying population to choose from.
Always been amazed at small population countries, like The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and The Chech republic among them, are able to stay in FIFA's top 10 ranking.
May have something to do with being Dutch.:?::?::tumble::tumble::P:P:lol::lol:

WTF?:?:

Does anyone know anything about what I just caught the tail end of on Fox Sports en español? It was called Mexico-Argentina El Reto Final Nissan, in Houston. It was tied 1-1, went into penalty shots to break the tie but apparently didn't!, as it ended with the trophy being held by both captains??? It appeared to be some kind of a "friendly" and in direct contrast to the Under 20 World Cup, several of the players were definitely "mature", as in gray or balding. Afterwards a couple of commentators came on commenting on various games. I don't know where they were from, but I couldn't understand a frikkin word the one who looked like Donald Trump was saying. He sounded like he either had a mouth full of oatmeal or was drunk on his butt.:?::?::?:
