What's the view from your casa?

 Pages:  1

bajamigo - 6-28-2007 at 04:04 PM

Seeing jdtrotter's post of the view from their front door, I wondered what other Nomads living in Baja gaze upon from their homes. We look out across the Bahia de Todos Santos north toward Ensenada. What you see parked out there is either the Paradise or the Elation. This view is spectacular at night.

i'm pretty sure 'tis neither......:light:

DENNIS - 6-28-2007 at 04:31 PM

From where I sit, I can almost see your house. That's paradise.

bajabound2005 - 6-28-2007 at 04:34 PM

Me thinks it's the Monarch of the Seas.

bajamigo - 6-28-2007 at 05:00 PM

You're right, 'tis neither, Woody. It is the Monarch. Squinted real hard, but couldn't quite read all the letters.

DENNIS - 6-28-2007 at 05:06 PM

Good squinting, Vince. Accuracy is important where time is meaningless.

Mine is almost as good as Bajabound and BajAmigo. But "Puerto SnoConeFrio", where my house is being built, has too many ice crystals in the clouds fogging my camera. Chain law was in effect this morning.

shari - 6-28-2007 at 08:09 PM

Our front door view isn't the best but it's not bad either...this is Diver's Point (which I named it as it's Diver's new lot) and the pangas are abalone divers...the season ends in 3 days and was very delicious...but Juan caught his first halibut of the season this evening off the beach so we're on to another delicacy.

DianaT - 6-28-2007 at 08:22 PM

From Shari's front door view, there is a little yellow dot in distance---that is jd Baja Trotter's casita amarillo.

or the view from above our new place --- the other side of Diver's point --and one can still see Shari's place beyond Diver's point--aka Iralandia.

We have a lot of beautiful palms around us. And right out our back door is a nice old laurel de india.

From our front window we see mangos and tabachin.

And farther out the back is a very mature guamuchil. We took one of these out when we bought the lot, as Salvador thought it was too messy. We wanted to be good neighbors:tumble:

Iflyfish - 6-30-2007 at 02:19 PM

You will have to imagine our view in Beaverton. Just picture it in your minds eye.........two story suburban houses, paved streets, sidewalks, clear driveways (covenants), not a neighbor in sight, no children laughing or playing, or fighting for that matter, paper on the doorstep every morning, enough pamphlets and bills in the mail to denude a small rain forest, lovely plantings, people who look strangly at you if you smile and say hello, just saw Sicko yesterday and feel both sad, angry and ready to RANT....what the h... am I doing here????

The weather here in Oregon is wonderful this time of year. That provides some redeaming value as does the wetlands in our back yard.

Iflyfishwhenpiningforbaja

Oso - 6-30-2007 at 02:38 PM

No ocean, sadly. But even though the house is IN the U.S., we do have a view OF Baja California. That's it along the horizon. The tree line marks the Colorado River (what's left of it below the Morelos Dam). The Algodones Dunes are just on the other side. Not a perfectly clear day, but through the haze you can just make out the Sierra Cucupah above Laguna Salada. To the left (South) is Sonora.

I spent the winter and spring working on my casita and it is now fully restored. The insurance company never paid. They refused to communicate. I have the equivalent of a paralegal on it. She found a way to reach someone. They offered a settlement which i accepted (less than 50% of my claim). Then they ceased communicating again.....not a cent.

What company? Y'all seen the publicity about ING lately? Check this sensationalist article.

--Larry

Larry,

My Spanish is "fair" but I can't get the gist of the article on ING.
Can you paraphrase briefly in English?

I am withholding the name of the insurance company because, if there is any chance of getting payoff in the future I don't want to jeopardize it. Most of the flood victims in Mulege were insured by this company because they had the lowest rates. True, "you get what you pay for", but I paid for SOMETHING and have gotten NOTHING! Only those who settled in October got a very small settlement. My claim wasn't turned in until February because I wasn't anywhere near ready before. I had to collect estimates and also receipts. My claim was very low because I wasn't able to anticipate all the work and materials needed. It wasn't finished until April.

The adjusters stayed in the same motel as someone very prominent in matters of The Orchard. He apparently reviewed the claims with the adjusters and debunked them. One of the adjusters disclosed this to a claimant as a reason for not settling. They were very intimidating and threatening. The adjusters, by the way, are independent contractors, not employees of the insurance company. They are counting on the prospect of gringos giving it up and just going away because it is just too difficult and seemingly futile. I am not going away, but I am running up a bill for time spent on an "assistant" trying to get answers. :fire:

Aint Baja but..
