During my most recent visit to Mexico I photographed several more 16th century convents in Hidalgo. I am attaching several photos, for those who may
be interested, of these colonial institutions that were precursors to missions in northern Mexico, such as the Baja California missions. The first is
the Augustinian convent San Andres at Epazoyucan.

Murals still survive on the walls of many of the convents, such as this scene.

This is the Franciscan convent at Tepeapulco. The cleric Bernardo de Sahagun resided here for many years, and draftred a text entitled "Historia
General de las Cosas de la Nueva Espana," which is a very important source of information on pre-contact native culture, etc. of central Mexico. He
employed the native leaders of Tepeapulco as informants.
