In the quiet of darkness, the little night demons appear. They have always been with me. These little fear mongers work to destroy the plans. What
if we become ill? Remember all those little crosses on the highway? What if the law changes, and you lose the property? You just wired thousands of
dollars to a man in another country; a man you only met once? Night after night sleep is interrupted with their malicious taunts. That is when
sleep arrives after hours of excited planning keeps me awake. The demons battle with the excitement, spur on anxiety, and then the hot flash arrives.
I guess I can’t blame the demons for the flashing.
On this trip, the demons crossed the border with me. My head ached with the pounding of question after question. Why are you doing this? It is so
far away? Always there is an accident on the highway. The demons callously sneered at the sight of this trip’s accident. A motorcycle, two people
and a cow, and the results were disastrous.
The trip is longer, much longer than in the past when only a vacation was involved. Now with the focus on what we have done, the miles stretched out.
The dirt road had deteriorated since we left. With ten boxes of tile newly purchased in Tecate at the back of the truck, I began to wonder what a
kitchen counter would look like in mosaic, or if colored tile dust was useful. Amazingly, the tile survived, as did we.
At first sighting of Bahia Asuncion, my smile slapped the little demons down---back to their subservient role as nasty mascots. We begin to unpack
and look at a few items that came with us this time. We see where other items need to come next time. Most are memories from travel in other areas
of Mexico, and they needed a breath of new life; we all need the same. There are no more questions as to why we are here.
Having a great time

my sentiments exactly as we drove down the "final" time in may, 2004, with all that remained of our earthly belongings in a 1995 camry and a 2002
highlander.
thanks for the memories, dianeBob and Susan - 7-7-2007 at 05:14 PM
