BajaNomad

A place nomads wouldn't like

DianaT - 7-10-2007 at 02:13 PM

Who wants to drive south of Bahia Asuncion on a dirt road to find miles and miles of this.

And that is only looking in one direction---here is the other way

What, no condos, no people, no hotels?? Who could like that---gees, not even a taco stand.

Then there are those dunes

The dunes with no off-road tire tracks, no empty beer cans, just the plain old dune plants with a few people and animal track.

And if that is not enough, what ever happened to brown sand?

A white sandy beach---how awful

Then there is this very small fishing village---shucks, they don't even have a disco!

And who wants to watch the fishermen going out to sea through the rocks and over the high surf??

No, it is just a place nomads would not like----guess we will just have to spend more time exploring that area so it does not get lonely.

Dunes from my front porch 1966

Baja Bernie - 7-10-2007 at 02:51 PM

If you remember the one I posted in 1982 with a basically flat beach...........this is what it looked like before a ton of folks and off road vehicles leveled it.

Angels Camp just south of La Salina looked most like your fishing village...........boy do things change.

Would love to walk that beach rod an hand looking for butts and the croaker clan,it reminds me of Gonzaga looking south 43 years ago without the surf of course.........not a soul in sight, how good can it get?

BajaGeoff - 7-10-2007 at 04:30 PM

Great photos! I'll be heading down that way next week.....hope to see the "live" version of those views!

Hook - 7-10-2007 at 05:15 PM

What I could do there with a nice ATV and a jet ski on a trailer.

BajaWarrior - 7-10-2007 at 06:21 PM

We're bringing our 3 seater JETSKI to get out to the islands for fishing and snorkeling and 2 QUADS so we can ride south to Abreojos for a day and just generally explore the area.

Please don't hate us because we have these toys and want to use them responsibly in Baja.

Just got back from San Quintin last night and used the quads to get from Socorrito to Cabo San Quintin (north side of bay entrance, check your map) 80 miles round trip, no problems, best scenery in Northern Baja.

Stopped in at Old Mill, Don Eddies, Campo Lorenzo, Old Pier, Jardines, Cemetary, Pedregal (stood on FISHBUCK'S lot), ate Oysters on the half shell, saw whales, did it all.

Sallysouth - 7-10-2007 at 06:47 PM

Oh Yuk! What awful pictures of a terrible place! Yeah right Diane! Thats what Makes Baja so precious and beloved. Thanks for bringing some Baja beauty to us that can't be there. Good greif , I am homesick(Baja)!!! Soon, I hope...

David K - 7-10-2007 at 06:49 PM

Yup, Baja... oh yah!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Debra - 7-10-2007 at 07:49 PM

BajaWarrior:

Nah, I don't hate you, but, I sure hate the noise your toys make. Isn't there a way to make those things quieter? Especially the JetSki noise, they sound like a hive of P***ed off bees. IMHO, nothing much worse than being on a quiet beach reading, and having to listen to that noise back and forth, back and forth. I rue the day when we have to have isolated beachs become so dense that signs will go up prohibiting all of our fun (yours included) I just wish (and believe) in this modern day of techies that something could/can be done about the noise polution before you and others lose the fun of your Quads and JetSkis..........Maybe? you and other "Toy" guys/gals might start asking for "neighbor friendly" toys before it's too late? Just an idea...........Have fun!

Great pics! Thanks, but, next time could you just U2 me?

No sense letting EVERYBODY know. ;D

BajaWarrior - 7-10-2007 at 09:26 PM

My quads are dead stock, electric start, 4 stroke, with reverse. Great transportation and they give our truck a break from the rough roads. After all, it has to get us back home, so my beauty of a SuperDuty will be resting and waiting for it's next assignment.

The latest Jet Ski's, yes they are all called jet ski's but waverunners if you like, although a trademark of Yamaha. Most correctly, PWC. Personal Water Craft, are now 4 stroke motors, fuel injection, and low enough emissions to qualify being on Lake Tahoe, at least my pair which are three seaters. We are taking one, my sweetee likes to hang on for the ride instead of riding her own, at least on this trip. Plus, we have space issue. 20' flatbed car hauler, triple axle with room for one PWC and trailer, and three quads, one quad is a back-up. On the truck rack will be Juan and Shari's gently used boat trailer for their Panga in which I have dissasembled for travel (frame, axle, wheels, tongue etc...) Also, the dog box, a large plywood box I have constructed to comfortably haul our two large best buddies down to Asuncion. Wouldn't be the same with out them.

It's all about the rider though. More importantly, the non-owner that rides it. One guy owns it, 15 others ride it.

For us, we are using our PWC as a vessel in which to go to the islands and surrounding area. By the way, these new type jet ski's are now 12' long, and a lot more comfortable and seaworthy than a boat of it's same length. Let's not forget fun too, that's why I bought them.

So, I've heard it all before, but I'm not being defensive. Just give some of us responsible citizens a little consideration.

Also, we don't go to the Colorado River either, there's a bunch of dumb-asses out there!

Warrior, hope I didn't ruffle any feathers (not my intention)

I understand what you are saying, and I do give "responsible citzens" consideration (thanks for being one of those) and I'm glad to hear that they are getting quieter.

You mention "one owner, 15 riders" perhaps if the "owner" gives "good neighbor" tips and rules to the riders we can all "Just get along"

Again, have fun.............Debra

No ruffleing at all Debra.

As far as the good neighbor tips and rules, it's a long shot. For newbies on Jet Ski's , they are only thinking one thing, go fast!

Debra - 7-10-2007 at 10:02 PM

Not sure why it would be a "long shot", as with my kids and grandkids..........don't follow the rules, toys are taken away.

Debra - 7-10-2007 at 10:04 PM

jdtrotter: Sorry to hijack you thread.

Warrior: we should probebly take this disscussion to U2?

BajaWarrior - 7-11-2007 at 04:55 AM

Oh yes, we did hijack. Apologies. All I'm sayin', I'm coming to Beautiful Asuncion for a week of exploring. Can't wait!

capt. mike - 7-11-2007 at 05:59 AM

sounds like the beach needs an HOA and some CCRs...............:(:P:rolleyes:

DianaT - 7-11-2007 at 12:02 PM

Debra and Baja Warrior

No hijack---we plan on buying a couple of quads for exploring --- there are lots of existing dirt roads. In fact, we turned back on one as we did not want to get stuck in the sand with having only one vehicle----two quads will change that.

On the other hand, there is one young boy in town who one day drove his quad over the dunes in front of our house. But, we know no real Baja lover would do that.

Baja Warrior, you will have a great time with your quads around here. There are so many places to go.

Now, as far a Donald Trump goes, maybe he can sell this area as just a little more than 30 minutes from San Diego.
:barf:

Happy Travels, and look forward to meeting some of you here. Just look for the yellow house by the playa and the grey Tundra with the Impeach Cheney bumper sticker---:yes:

shari - 7-11-2007 at 03:25 PM

Warriors, we look forward to playing with your toys too...if you plan to go to the islands on those contraptions, please have a handheld VHF with you! see ya soon.

BajaWarrior - 7-11-2007 at 03:37 PM

I just happen to have one, what channel does Asuncion operate on?

shari - 7-11-2007 at 03:41 PM

Everyone stands by on channel 16 then switches to a working channel which we will set up one for us...the coops have their own channels...great thing to have just in case and you can order food delivery with it too and call us to invite us over for c-cktails!

BajaWarrior - 7-11-2007 at 03:57 PM

Yep that's how we do it at our casa below San Felipe.

Channel 69 is a hailing channel, then go 68 or 71 or whatever you agree on with the other party.

c-cktails, did you mention c-cktails? I'm Cuba Libre or Margarita on the rocks and Chris is Tanqueray and Tonic. Bringing a modest amount of all.

Al G - 7-11-2007 at 06:03 PM

"to comfortably haul our two large best buddies down to Asuncion. Wouldn't be the same with out them."
Do they get to use the spare quad like Scooby-do?
Noise...I hate noise...the only draw back of my Polaris. Best suspension there is for Baja...but they really need to do something about the noise. Going to dealer before returning to Baja and try to change that...

No, they are card carrying Baja Dogs by way of numerous trips, but they don't get to ride the extra quad, that quad is the backup for us.

Besides, they think they are lap dogs even though the Rotty is 110#'s and the chow/mix is 60#'s.

Our quads are not noisy, and we ride them without exhibition of speed, they also have the stock exhaust.
