I'm taking my son through California and Baja in 2 weeks.
He's just learning to surf and is excited to stop along the way. Any places where there's easy waves and rental boards along the way? We'll be hitting
the coast at SLO and will be near the Pacific all the way down to El Rosario.
Boogy Boarding is always an option.Cypress - 7-11-2007 at 11:38 AM
Let him find his own waves. He'll show you a wave or two.805gregg - 7-11-2007 at 12:32 PM
If he is learning to surf he needs his own board, maybe 1 of those soft boards, good to learn on.

Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. Good beginner's place. Water 71.2 this AM. Lot's of rentals in town.
Or, take him to Salt Creek or T Street and he wont care about the surf with all the cute surfer girls around.........

Huntington Beach....(another secret spot is now exposed)........oldhippie - 7-12-2007 at 07:40 AM
La Jolla Shores and Tourmaline in San Diego are good places for beginners. Playas de Tijuana has a workable sand bar / beach break at the south end of
the malecon. Further down the toll road well past Rosarito just before it goes inland a bit there's a wide beach with a parking lot where a beginner
can have fun on a boogie board. You'll drive right by it.elgatoloco - 7-12-2007 at 09:28 AM

For his 16th birthday trip try San Onofre State Park-Trail 6.Hook - 7-12-2007 at 10:02 AM
Have you been there lately, el Gato? Mostly people of the other persuasion rubbing baby oil on each other.
Now, if it's been discovered by young surfer girls, I'LL BE DOWN THERE ON A REGULAR BASIS!!!cbuzzetti - 7-12-2007 at 12:49 PM
You should be able to find plenty of available durf boards to rent at Pismo Beach (so. of SLO)
Ocean has been pretty flat lately so now is good time. Cayucos is also a good option.
