Truck and Dogs Stolen in Rosarito

bajabound2005 - 7-13-2007 at 07:21 AM

I am posting this in hopes Nomads can help these people. I don't know anymore than is contained here (I just rec'd this this AM)

"Elizabeth Barnett <brattyangel99@yahoo.com> wrote:

bacquito - 7-13-2007 at 07:35 AM

What kind of truck?? As you are aware, there are lots of dogs running around.

amir - 7-13-2007 at 07:36 AM

Bajabound2005, my prayers are with the people that are missing their dogs. I will visualize them all soon reunited again.

The dogs are looking for them, too.
Tell them to trust in the Serendipity of Baja...

Could they maybe post a picture of the dogs and the truck? :light::light:

Not my truck, not my dogs. I rec'd the email this AM and posted on behalf of the sender. I have no further info.

Diver - 7-13-2007 at 07:46 AM

Best bet would be to post pictures and a reward in the area the truck was stolen ASAP.
The thieves may try to make some more $$ from them and probably still know where the dogs are.

We often leave our dogs in the truck but only in smaller towns in Baja Sur.
I would never let the truck/dogs out of my site in some cities of Norte.

.

Info

bajaguy - 7-13-2007 at 08:14 AM

I sent Elizabeth an e-mail and asked her to get on this forum with a description of the truck and details regarding the theft. I guess we will have to wait and see.......

bajamigo - 7-13-2007 at 08:17 AM

Smart move, b'guy.

capn.sharky - 7-13-2007 at 08:40 AM

Elizabeth---I feel badly for you....screw the truck, but dogs are like family. With all the loose dogs running around Baja, I can't imagine they will keep the dogs. They may be running loose in Rosarito. Offer a reward to the local police and I'll bet he dogs turn up. I hate to see bad things happen to good people.

Al G - 7-13-2007 at 08:54 AM

The policia most likely have them in a pen waiting for you to post an award...Look behind the pen...Your truck is probably there too.:(

DianaT - 7-13-2007 at 10:16 AM

There is an animal sanctuary in Rosarito ---- I believe it is still there and run by Sunny Benedict--

I hope the link shows---posting from an Internet Cafe and it is different. If it does not show, it is called Rosarito Animal Sanctuary.

May not be of any help, but worth a try.

Really sad about the loss of the dogs---I know how we would feel.

Good Luck
Diane and John

Here is the link for the Baja Animal Sanctuary in Rosarito - It is still run by Sunny Benedict. Good luck.

OH NO!!!! How awful!

How ba**zy does someone have to be to rip off a truck with 4 large dogs in it?! My heart goes out to you, I hope you get then back (and your truck),

If caught, these guys deserve to have hamburger rubbed all over them and staked out in the desert for the feral packs to enjoy!!!! Messing with someone's truck is bad enough, but, to mess with family, they deserve whatever they get, and worse!!!!!

Good luck.

bajaguy - 7-13-2007 at 11:39 AM

I don't see where Elizabeth has signed on the board.

Maybe some Rosarito Nomads could check the shelter for the Golden Retrievers

Debra - 7-13-2007 at 11:42 AM

Good idea Bajaguy! Anyone?

Diver - 7-13-2007 at 11:47 AM

I took a moment and emailed her some of our suggestions.
Our 2 labs decided not to come for home for 2 day last week - it was not fun.

Cypress - 7-13-2007 at 11:59 AM

Steal my vehicle, good luck. Steal my dog, I'm gonna hurt you.:tumble:

Dave - 7-13-2007 at 12:25 PM

I checked. The shelter doesn't have the dogs. They were probably let loose. If so, they may still be roaming the streets. The owner eeds to make up a bunch of flyers...now.

Time is short.

bajaguy - 7-13-2007 at 01:12 PM

Just got off the phone with Elizabeth....posted number is her cell.

Dogs and truck taken on Monday, 7-9-07, from the Commercial Mexicana shopping center toward the middle of Rosarito while her husband was paying bills. Husband is in Rosarito area posting flyers now. His name is Cruz.

Truck is a 2004-2005 Ford F-150, extended cab, maroon in color, California plates.

She will call me back with her husbands cell number.
Elizabeth said that she will attempt to contact her husband and tell him to log onto the baja nomad board ASAP so we can get some real-time updates

Stay tuned...............

That's the worst thing I could imagine. I have not been a fan of fear, refusing to live my life that way. But the thought of my dog, Paco being stolen, and the uncertainty of his well being is unthinkable. :(:fire:

This subject (and anything dog related) rips me apart

Gypsy Jan - 7-13-2007 at 04:47 PM

I shop at that Comericial in midtown Rosarito every week.

Hubby parks, gets a paleta from the ice cream store, returns to the truck and then I go into the nbg store for groceries.

Our dogs are always with us and we never, ever, leave our vehicle unattended.

That being said, if someone from the family can return to the parking lot with a spanish speaking helper and interview and offer rewards for information (in a friendly manner) the parking lot guards, that might produce results.

As the other poster commented, time is of the essence.

Our most sincere condolences to the family for their loss, we hope that you can find your beloved companions.

Dave - 7-13-2007 at 05:08 PM

Jan, good chance the stolen vehicle was taken south and into the hills. Dogs could have been abandoned in your area. I would expect they would stay together.

Keep watch.

Just kills me to think about four dogs running around searching for their master... Also damned mad.

DENNIS - 7-13-2007 at 05:23 PM

With each successive posting on this thread, I anxiously look for something new. This has all the pain of a kidnapping.

Dave - 7-13-2007 at 06:20 PM

If he puts $1000 on the flyers and those dogs are anywhere in the area...he will get them back. Or at least a phone call.

DENNIS - 7-13-2007 at 06:28 PM

If his posters look like the above, he should have specified dollars. The scum who have his dogs probably think in pesos.

bajaguy - 7-14-2007 at 06:47 PM

Has anybody heard anything or has anyone called the MX phone number???..this is frustrating!!!

jeans - 7-14-2007 at 08:53 PM

Oh man...I was hoping by the time I got to the end there would be a happy ending. I called Mom south of Calafia to tell her to be on the lookout.

I parked at the same store two days before this happened and I was nervous as hell to leave the jeep with my laptop in it.....parked in the back no less...I usually will not take it if I know I have to stop somewhere, but mom wanted to stop for groceries after being gone a week.

I will hold on to the very real prospect of a happy ending. Some kind soul will find them and know they have a family that is aching for them. Or some not-so-kind soul is waiting to collect the reward...uh....I mean RANSOM:fire::fire:

Debra - 7-15-2007 at 11:00 AM

Bump bump,

I wish somehow these people would realize just how effective Nomads can be.

Please, please post pictures, more details. Nomad eyes are on alert and we would love nothing more than to get your family back, you have the best resourse right here!

I know I'm not the only one here checking for updates every couple of hours or so.

Ahem.....

bajaguy - 7-15-2007 at 11:20 AM

Some Nomad in TJ or Rosarito should call the MX number and get an update or have them post photos

DENNIS - 7-15-2007 at 11:48 AM

Yeah.... What's up? These people have to give us something to work with. Is anybody up there who can prompt and assist them on this?

Cypress - 7-15-2007 at 01:56 PM

Hope you find your dogs safe and sound.

Packoderm - 7-15-2007 at 02:10 PM

I am wishing that we could just check the latest update on this thread and find that the dogs have been found.

DENNIS - 7-15-2007 at 07:06 PM

Maybe we should keep this bumped up to the front a bit longer, hoping for some pics.

Crusoe - 7-15-2007 at 07:50 PM

So sorry to read of this situation. There is nothing worse than than losing a loved one. Sometimes dogs are harder to lose than almost any thing you can immagine........They are always there for you and so faiyhful when you need them. Those are good ideas Dennis......This is the stuff that is so important. These dogs need to be back with their parents. Peeople need to see pics and info, and the local cops need to do their " shake down"++C++

Ken Cooke - 7-15-2007 at 09:46 PM

X2 - Those dogs need to be back with their parents. I don´t know what I would do if Frida and T.J. were stolen. Those Chihuahuas mean the world to me...

I just received a reply email from Elizabeth - as it turns out, these are not her dogs, but here's the scoop.
"Hello, I am really trying to get my pictures posted on here of the dogs... My scanner is not the best... The truth is I'm the friend of the family and I'm doing all computer leg work for them... they do have enough to worry about... I've dog sat these dogs for their life and they are like family to me... the couple is going through a divorce so I'm even going as an in between for them... so this is very very hard... We all appreciate all the support and help... I would have been lost without it... I will make sure to get you a picture to post ASAP. You guys are all angels to be keeping an eye out. Keep the dogs in your prayers... We don't even care about the truck."

bajabound2005 - 7-17-2007 at 07:49 PM

hmmmm, that last post disappeared. Unfortunately, after getting that last email (posted) I was thinking the same thing and said so aloud to Bajamigo; glad another nomad came to that conclusion since we've had no follow up on the part of the folks that are in the situation... without cooperation it's difficult to do nothing but "imagine the worst".

Looking

bajaguy - 7-17-2007 at 07:56 PM

Bajablonde, Bajadog (Libbie the Wonderdog) and I will be looking for the lost puppies on our way down Friday

surfer jim - 7-17-2007 at 09:11 PM

Hmmmm....."going through a divorce"......this whole stolen truck with dogs in it seemed a little much......something tells me there is something else going on here......

Bajafun777 - 7-17-2007 at 10:02 PM

Sufer Jim the same dog bit me too!! Have handled mediation issues with divorced people and you can not image some of the low life things people that use to love each other will do to each other. It is sad that we have to think this, but never say never. What they do with kids against each other is just a little bit of what they can do if they want the dogs. At least the dogs would know one of them if it is the case. Hope it's not the case and hope the dogs are found and cared for. Later----- bajafun777

Just got back from a day trip to the states. I hadn't seen your post yet and I'm glad I didn't. The idea of it would have conflicted me throughout the drive.
All I can say is, I hope your implication is right.

If this is the actual email there appears to be many misleading statements, "my husband", "my dogs", "my truck" and elsewhere it was stated they were Labs not Goldens...now "Elizabeth" is saying they are not her dogs. Is it really your Husband and your truck ???? Are the dogs really lost ??? I hope this is some sick joke for "Elizabeth's" sake.....and the dogs are fine.

$1000 REWARD

4 LABRADOR RETRIEVERS

LOST/STOLEN IN DOWNTOWN ROSARITO

$1,000 REWARD

On July 9th – a newer model Ford F-150 - maroon in color, was stolen off the main boulevard in downtown Rosarito, containing 4 Labrador retrievers:

· (2) male dogs 5 years of age. 1 with collar (Sam); 1 without (Dusty)

· (1) female 7 years of age with collar (Momma)

· (1) male 7 years of age with collar (Sundance)

These animals are purebred golden retrievers blonde/golden in color. They are not micro chipped. 2 of them are pretty large in size and the other 2 are medium in size. They are spayed and neutered and very sweet.

IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THESE DOGS PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ELIZABETH BARNETT AT brattyangel99@yahoo.com or call (909 382-1177) evenings & weekends); EIBarnett@scif.com weekdays.

So are the dogs Labs or Goldens???

jerry - 7-18-2007 at 05:17 PM

and the plot thickenes?? whos getting costedy of the dogs and the pickup??

DENNIS - 7-18-2007 at 06:09 PM

It may be a bit impulsive to call BS on the story at this point. Maybe we should let it play out a while longer. If it is all true, it would be an insensitive shame to have these people crapped on by us as well.

Gypsy Jan - 7-18-2007 at 06:25 PM

Ok, I have refrained from reporting because I had no info.

But, I asked the CREEAD folks to look for the dogs and to try to find out about the stolen truck.

No info, no stolen truck in the parking lot and no golden retreivers/labs running around the landscape in Rosarito.

I call bullchit on this, just another gringo trying to blame Mexico.

The Gull - 7-18-2007 at 08:17 PM

Would anyone be able to explain why the notice contains the words Golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers to describe the same four dogs?

I may be a little low on Dog-ology, but aren't those really different LOOKING pooches?

bajadogs - 7-18-2007 at 09:25 PM

I'm with Gypsy on this one. It makes no sense.
I hope to read what really happened and hope that no dogs were harmed in the making of this thread.

Dogs Found

The Gull - 7-19-2007 at 06:55 AM

In a police report from Mazatlan today...

Four people in a truck were pulled over for speeding, suspected of being DUI. When the police approached the truck, all they found were two Labradors and two Goldens. They took the truck and the dogs to the station. When they put the dogs in the jail cell to hold them, they had turned into three labs and 1 golden. Later, the officers noticed four chickens walking out the front door. Since this is normal, they didn't check the cell. Later they heard a truck start up and drive away. As it passed the front door it was a Volkswagen with Paris Hilton, Elvis, Rod Serling and what looked like a chubracabra in the rear seat. The officers swore that all these things happened.

I believe this, right along with all the other fables of Mexico told by locals and visitors, alike.

Why end a good thing? Hey, the Snow White poster always looked better after acid.

Some of dream in technicolor, while others of us live in the dream. Diversity, man, its real, you know.

Was it Rod Serling or Paris Hilton that tipped you off to what it was?

Did you guess yet? Are there still four dogs in the jail? I didn't cover that part of the story. Also, is the truck still there? Man, you got to examine what was written and what wasn't.
