Just last week while camping below San Quintin at El Pabellon Campo, we (wife and I) rode from our camp to San Quintin to the Bahia turnoff at the Army Base, and rode to the Pacific, then south to Cabo San Quintin where the point creates the north side of the bahia entrance. Nice ride, 80 miles round trip. Along the way we stopped for prepared Oysters at the north end of Bahia Falso, and also stopped at Old Mill, Campo Lorenzo, Don Eddies, Old Pier, Jardines, Old Cememtary, and Pedregal.

Very cool trip.

Also, last summer while camping at Malibu Beach south of Castro's in Erindira, my wife and I rode south to San Antonio del Mar, then on the Quatros Casas, then on to Shipwrecks and Punta San Jacinto, just north of Camalu.

Figured this trip to be about 100 miles round trip.

Get up early, take it slow, take in the scenery, it's everywhere!

Next month, we'll be staying at Shari's Beach House in Bahia Asuncion for little over a week, where we then plan to ride south to Punta Abreojos, which will be about 130 miles round trip.

Hi Russ,

I've been quite a few places in Baja on my Polaris 500 Sportsman and on my 325 Trail Boss. I Have ridden them hundreds of miles around San Felipe - both North and South of town - on the beaches and off-road.

In 2002, I went with a group of quads and cycles on a R/T ride from San Felipe to BOLA and back in 5 days. We overnighted coming and going in Gonzaga and 2 nights in BOLA at Gecko.

In 2003, we did a longer 5 day ride. Day 1) We went from San Felipe across the mountains to Erendira on the Pacific side, 2) South to Cielito Lindo in San Quentin 3) East and South through the mountains to Rancho Santa Ines 4) South and East across Chapala to Coco's and then overnighted at Gonzaga 5) home on the 5th day to Pete's Camp in San Felipe. Most of the trip was done off-road, with some pavement ridden to fill in the gaps here and there. Desertbull and Wild Bill were our support in DB's Dodge Baja rig.

Sure do love riding my quad in Baja. Would like to do many more trips both short and long. Maybe a R/T to Cabo and back someday!!

Maybe we can organize a Nomad Quad ride some time. Maybe start off with an easy weekend overnighter to some place and see how everyone does.

Amopescar, on your quad run from SF to BOLA, did you guys stick to the established roads.

I guess what I'm asking is if there is a way to drive south from Punta Final all the way to BOLA along the coast on quads?

Trip around Pescadero foot hills below Sierra la Laguna
Pacifico stop on way back.
Next trip is planned to top of Laguna or a least to Santo Tomas del Palo hoping to find a route to Boca de la Sierra.

Now that would be fun! I am running an 01' Yamaha 350 Warrior that is a pretty reliable quad but not up for the challenge your speaking of.

Trying to get the wife to authorize the new Kawasaki 700!

We have two identical Warriors and two Honda 250 EX's, all 01's, all good bikes.

Amo, can you answer HOOK'S question regarding trail to BOLA?

Hook an Baja Warrior, you will enjoy reading Graham Mackintosh's first book ('Into a Desert Place') for a detailed report of the coast between Gonzaga and L.A. Bay.

As I was with Amo when we met with Desert Bull helping plan the route for that 2002 ride, I can tell you they used existing roads (via Calamajue and Desengaño).

As for my quad ride in Baja... Here is the quad I rode to Mision Santa Maria with Baja Mur in 1999...

Just got back from San Marcos Tierra. Encountered a barbed wire fence at the beach access at Dolphin Cove. Thought that was illegal.

have used my quad to travel the pacific coast from Laguna San Ignacio to Mallarimo Beach. Have seen many access roads blocked mainly to restrict people from the Abalone and Lobster fisheries.

That sounds like some great exploring! We'll be in Asuncion next month and will be riding our quads from there south to Abreojos.

But on your northern rides towards Mallarimo, were there actual gates that you could open, pass through, then close and resume riding, or could you cut down to the beach and bypass?

Great photo, do you recall where that location is?

SORRY TO GET BACK TO YOU SO LATE. MY WORK HAS MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO GET HERE.

AS DAVID SAID, SOME OF THE BOLA TRIP WAS DONE ON ESTABLISHED DIRT ROADS SUCH AS THE ROAD FROM PUERTOCITOS TO GONZAGA. SOME WAS DONE ON LESS USED BACK COUNTRY ROADS, SUCH AS THOSE USED BY THE LOCALS WHO LIVE IN THE BOONIES. PROBABLY THE MOST OFF-ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY ROADS AND TRAILS WERE THROUGH THE CALAJUME WASH AREA.

THE S.F. TO PACIFIC TRIP ALSO HAD A VARIED MIX OF ESTABLISHED DIRT ROADS AND LITTLE USED DIRT TRAILS. THE MOST RUGGED PART OF THE RIDE WAS THROUGH THE HILLS TO THE EAST AND SOUTH OF SAN QUENTIN.
WE HAD A GREAT DEAL OF ELEVATION CHANGE AND DIDN'T SEE HARDLY A LICK OF CIVILIZATION THAT DAY. IT WAS A COURSE THAT WILD BILL KNEW OF FROM HIS BAJA BFG COURSE EXPLORATIONS.

good to know there is another biker on this board.
best mtn biking in baja are the many roads in SPM which thankfully are closed to unauthorized motorized vehicles -- if you like the peak climbing in SPM or more remote areas of SPM, mtn bikes are best way to make the very long approaches.
