Ensenada Donut Shop???

bajaguy - 7-16-2007 at 03:40 PM

Posted by Pacoderm........earlier

...we always stop at the donut shop south of Ensenada. ....I couldn't give exact directions. It's just north of the impromptu flea market fronting the shops on the east side of the highway. The shop has a pretty good selection of donuts - and you can use their bathroom........

Now is the time for all good Ensenadaenites (???) to rally for the cause..........we need an exact location before next Saturday morning (7-21-07).........PLEASE!!!l

Come on Dennis

bajaguy - 7-16-2007 at 03:46 PM

Where is it???

Donut Shop Needed

MrBillM - 7-16-2007 at 03:53 PM

In San Felipe.

Although every Panaderia makes Donuts, there's something about the process that they just haven't figured out.

WHO are the proprieters of the Ensenada shop ? Up here, in the High Desert, all of the GOOD donut shops are owned by immigrant Vietnamese.

Two things we miss most of all when spending weeks at a time in Baja are KFC and Good Donuts. I'd add Hamburgers, but there are a couple of places that make a decent Burger.

bajadogs - 7-16-2007 at 03:56 PM

Is this the one you seek Bajaguy?
Sorry for the bad pic.

Tutti Donas....
Across the street from the Navy base entrance, the gas station and the RV park. They have Apple Fritters the size of cow-pattys. The best I've ever had. It's a chain, maybe local, which has faithfully served Ensenadenses for years.
Rachel Ray would say, "Yummers" and, whatever Rachel says is law, and order.

Oh, no Bill...........
After a Tutti fritter, you'll spit on the VC immitations. PTEW---PTEW----PTEW. Vile frauds poisening the American public on low interest loans.

DENNIS - 7-16-2007 at 04:19 PM

Hose A ....

Calle Juarez/ Cortez? By the laundromat? I knew of a bakery there. Did it change to a Tutti's?
I can not remember the name but no not Tuttie's I just did a little clean up on bajadogs photo to see more detail.

There is a donut shop two blocks from me that make the worst pastry products I have ever tasted If anyone want directions.:saint:

Betcha they are Cambodian....
Not Vietnamese.
(and yes, there is a difference)

Natalie Ann - 7-16-2007 at 04:54 PM

So Bajaguy.... I assume you'll be getting a donut for me, too... por favor? I qualify for one... my son's a cop, you know.;D:biggrin::dudette:

bajamigo - 7-16-2007 at 06:03 PM

BG, walk into any respectable-looking panaderia, and if you can't find what you want, I'd be shocked.

DENNIS - 7-16-2007 at 06:07 PM

Won't find apple fritters.

You'll rarely find fried donuts. Cake donuts are a nice option but they ain't the real thing.

There's a new donut shop opened in Primo Tapia next to the tire shop. The real deal... and... Unlike most panderias, they actually open at seven AM with fresh donuts.

They have apple fritters.

bajadock - 7-16-2007 at 07:22 PM

Whose Tutti are we discussing? Is there a before and after photo?

Where?

Thanks to all for the info..................including Dennis and Doc!!!

Natalie.....bad cop, no donut!!!

Packoderm - 7-16-2007 at 07:30 PM

I believe that is the place. It is hard to recognize in the nighttime photo. And yes, the fritters are the best things they offer.

bajadock - 7-16-2007 at 07:39 PM

Bajaguy,
I apologize. I obviously am challenged with language skills and the context of your post. As a single guy, I thought the thread was about TUTTI shops.

Doc

bajaguy - 7-16-2007 at 07:50 PM

We will "chat" this weekend!!!

Bruce R Leech - 7-16-2007 at 07:56 PM

DENNIS - 7-16-2007 at 08:03 PM

Bruce R Leech - 7-16-2007 at 08:26 PM

I tried something there that looked like a fritter but, it wasn't. I don't know what it was, using Tutti's fritters as a benchmark.

I...... need...... a...... donut...... help.....

For those of us who do NOT know Ensenada or it's landmarks, where is a Tutti's on Highway 1 going through town? Give us some landmarks, again? (Make it simple.)

bajabound2005 - 7-17-2007 at 08:32 AM

Hey, Dennis - let's open a Krispy Kreme here!

bajadogs - 7-17-2007 at 08:37 AM

Here is a map of the Tutti's that I'm familiar with -
Easy to get to while heading south through town.

Bruce R Leech - 7-17-2007 at 08:41 AM

bajabound2005 - 7-17-2007 at 08:59 AM

Wow, Bruce, you've been here how long? A couple of weeks and you already know where all the donut shops are? Were you a cop or something?

Asian Donut Guys and/or Gals

MrBillM - 7-17-2007 at 09:18 AM

Not Viet, but Cambodian ? Since the information I have on the subject is only empirical and confined to YV and Hemet, I can't proffer any statistical data regarding ethnic distribution of Donut Shop Ownership.

Not that it makes a difference who is making those GOOD donuts but, my question would be "How do you know that" ? Has there been a study done on immigrant donut shops ? And where ? Is there some sort of statutory limitation that requires they be Cambodian ?

Regarding the Panaderias, as I stated regarding San Felipe, I have tried quite a few and the Donuts just aren't the same. Perhaps that's not the case in other towns. If not, I would wonder why ? Do they employ Cambodians ?

Donut Response

CaboRon - 7-17-2007 at 01:22 PM

:lol::lol: This thread has had a huge response from Nomads :bounce: Is it really that hard to find a good raised glazed ?? How about Los Cabos ..... are there any good glazed in BCS ?? By the way , loved the picture map , that kind of information is gold... for those of us who need a visual aid  :bounce: :lol::lol: CaboRon

Cypress - 7-17-2007 at 01:28 PM

So we're going down to Baja to eat donuts?:lol:

DENNIS - 7-17-2007 at 01:34 PM

No. We're going down to Baja to drink massive quantities of Pacifico. You eat donuts while waiting for the beer store to open.

bajabound2005 - 7-17-2007 at 01:35 PM

Shrimp donuts I think they are...or donut tacos?

bajadogs - 7-17-2007 at 01:57 PM

For the record - I don't like doughnuts. The only reason I have a photo of Tutty's is that I was fueling up my truck at the Pemex and my daughter burst out in laughter, and requested I take a photo of the sign.

Some how it just frustrates me to paint ethnic groups with a broad, meandering, and unfeeling brush.

The Cambodians have taken great pride in what they have done.

Simply branding a Southeast Asian person as "Vietnamese" is somehow quite demeaning....assuming that they are not in that particular heritage.

bajadogs - 7-17-2007 at 08:33 PM

The URL www.bajadonuts.com is still available for you entrepreneurs. bite.

bajadock - 7-17-2007 at 09:00 PM

I'm attempting to display leadership on health and fitness in my new community. Fried Dough. EEEYEKKH! Time for more some more tofu and my 8th Tecate of the evening. Gotta keep up my beer gut to blend in with locals.

Better

bajaguy - 7-17-2007 at 09:07 PM

Tofu generally tastes better with Pacifico

bajabound2005 - 7-17-2007 at 09:12 PM

Tecate??? AAAAGHGH! Run for your lives!!!!

bajadock - 7-17-2007 at 09:14 PM

I've gone to the other side. No, not THAT. TECATE over Pacifico. Mi trabajadors have influenced me. There is hope that I might start liking DOUGH NUTS. Interesting word as the term contains a large part of my last name.
