New Pemex in Loreto

capn.sharky - 7-17-2007 at 03:38 PM

We have a new Pemex in Loreto. It is located accross the street from Braulios Materials. For over thirty years the Loretanos have felt that the two existing gas stations sold short liters and put water in their gas. I think the water just comes from condensation in the tanks as it is humid for a good part of the year in Loreto. However, perception is everything. The new station is not owned by the same guy that ownes the other two stations. As a result, you will find no lines at the old station---sometimes not even any cars there for gas. The new station usually has a long line up of cars waiting to be filled. Right or wrong, what goes 'round comes 'round.

Hooray for competition!

Now, if Pemex wasn't the only brand in town... How much better would services and honesty be? Thanks to the few honest station owners in Mexico!

Please report where you know the pumps aren't altered and money is short changed (on purpose)...

Same thing happened in Santa Rosalia. New station on the water side by the marina has a new owner and honest pumps with nice attendants. The old station has very few clients. As it should be. I don't know about new station way north of town but heard it is owned by the same family that has the old station and also the San Ignacio station? Clean and honest. That shouldn't be too much to ask for.

Los Barriles?

Now we can hope for competition in Los Barriles.

Sharky-- No brainer why the 2 pemexes have no lines. Every mexican and gringo knew the owner was a bandildo, 10%, at least.

filling my tank at either of the 'old' Pemex stations...280-320 pesos

filling my tank at the new Pemex station...220-250 pesos

yes, it's a small tank and I fill at 3/4. but pretty amazing how it's 'shrunk' in the past six months.

I had a nice chat the other day when I filled up with one of the
lady attendants...........

She said she was happy to be working there, and told me that she is paid the same salary as the men who work there. Now that's a first!!

In fact, she said it was the best job she has ever had, as far as earnings go.

Que padre!!

Quick note!

Alway look for the 'Qualli' sign at the station. These stations are ones that have demonstrated honesty and service.

You will note that the older stations owned by the folks that traditionally sold short cannot get that sign.

What goes around comes around is so apropo!

The old station on the main drag has a "quali" sticker now. It hasn't made a bit of difference on the short liters.....

The old operators can ,most likely, just buy them.:?::?::P:P

I had a chat with one of the attendants at the Loreto Pemex in May. He gets paid 15 Pesos per hour (120/day) plus tips. I usually tip 10 pesos if they even make an attempt to be nice.

Hi there,

its spelled "Cualli" and yes they're the best, we've saved thousands by using this station over the old ones which we don't go to anymore. this station also takes VISA and Mastercard!

the bandidos are run by "Auto Express" stay away from them
