Went to a close friend's daughter's wedding in Mexicali in April, got there early so I would not have to fight for a parking place. The church is the big old one in downtown Mexicali (forgot the name of the
Catholic Church) not far from the border. We must have seen two weddings back to back, as we had gotten there about an hour early. We sat in the
church and just enjoyed the weddings of two young couples that had little to start out with and even though their weddings were simple their love and
happiness was bursting out for everyone to see. The other thing I noticed were people coming in and praying and leaving same gifts to the statue of
Mary. These people were almost totally blind to the weddings that were occurring. The same Priest moved the ceremonies along and the people of one
wedding would pick up their flowers, paper carpet that was rolled out , etc. between each of the weddings and the wedding of my friend's daughter. It
just makes you sit back and wonder and they collected donations after each wedding for the Priest and church. My wife and I gave to all three
weddings that day and it was fun, in fact I might just go down on some Saturday in the future when it is cooler and just watch some more. I enjoyed
some of the singers they each had and watching the families interact with each other. Of course a few beggers came in but the people in the church
kind of discoursed giving them money in an effort to have them stop doing this inside the church. I started to give one some money so he would not
disrupt the ceremony but my wife insisted I not do so. She felt it would just bring more. Well, she was probably right and I didn't. The street
vendors selling food, church symbols, etc. just outside of the church doors, which always remained opened during the wedding, just added to the flavor
so to speak. It just makes you remember when we were young not really knowing what life was all about but hand in hand with the quest for fun and
love we marched onward. Ah, to be as one of my other friend says " Young, dumb, and looking for fun." Anyone else attend any weddings of these sorts in Mexico??? Later---bajafun777
