!! The Journey Begins !!

CaboRon - 7-19-2007 at 01:46 PM

:bounce: Hola Fellow Nomads,
Well, my move to BCS in getting close. Am crossing at San Yesidro eary in the morning on October First ........... only 73 days to step-off ........ and having been denied the FM3 by the Santa Ana Consul (internet banking statement problems) I have decided to enter with a FMT and red light/green light my posestions ...... The house hold goods and t- shirts etc. on the roof rack will be for donation in BCS, and I am prepared to leave that stuff on the ground if they don't buy that story. Precious things and computer inside with the camping goods and suitcases..... Then I'll apply for a proper Visa in La Paz or Cabo.
Have sent off an e-mail to Baja Cactus for the first nights stay...........:bounce:..... then possibly on to GN for night two ..........:bounce: then I'm not sure but maybe Loretto or further south for the third night. Don't want to drive more than fifty miles an hour or more than two or three hundred miles each day or less. I'll be driving an old full size Bronco .......and I love to stop and smell the roses along the way..........:bounce: Final destination (as of now) is Todos Santos !!!!
So any suggestions you might have are welcome............Overnight stays need secure parking so as not to have to unload each night...
 Thank You, CaboRon
This is the big one, the move into reitrement !!

A RUN FOR THE BORDER :bounce::bounce::bounce::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

You go, Ron, and dont look back.
You'll love it here no matter where you wind up. Take some time and look around.

Defininitely stop in San Ignacio. Stay with Gary and Terry.
I would make a ressie:

In Loreto there is Iguana Inn and Cococabanas, small guests houses with off street parking or Oasis with a huge parking lot. With your rig you might want to do Oasis. It is right on the water and a great place to eat breakfast...

Mulege, Serenidad for safe parking.

La Paz, Los Arcos also safe parking.
***I keep forgetting about this place. Close and off street parking

If you get to San Jose del Cabo, look me up!

Dont forget to bring all that paper work that you took to the consul so you can get your FM3... also ask for 180 days on your FMT just in case!

Thanks

BajaJudy,
Thanks for the positive words .... I am SO looking forward to getting out of southern california... I want to see a stary field in the sky instead of five stars.... and getting away from the background noise of millions of people will be a welcome respite. CaboRon

Best of luck! Look forward to hearing about your new adventure. Sorry about the trouble with the Internet Banking Statements---San Diego had no problem with our internet bank statements----but, just like everything else, it depends.

You sound just a wee bit exicited. Have fun and try to get some sleep between now and when you leave---it won't be easy.

Felizidades CaboRon! I wish I was making the full time move with you. Cannot wait to get down there myself. I have building my place up (house, pool, boat garage etc...) in the anticipation of my final move south. I am jealous.

If you end up not making it all the way down to El Rosario, you can stay @ "Marie Celeste" in San Quintin which has secure parking too. "Hotel Mallarimo" in GN (awesome garlic sea bass @ their restaurant). And as BajaJudy said, Oasis in Loreto. Don't pass up McLulu's fish tacos while in town.

Have a great trip and post pics of your new found paradise often.

Green with envy,

Peloncito

Good Luck Ron! We made the same trip a year and a half ago, Tahoe was stuffed with everything I could insist to my husband could not go on the van plus 2 teed off cats and a mellow yellow lab. Roof carrier, tools, coolers, Grandma's silverware; everything but guns and drugs. Waved thru at every checkpoint. Slight pause in GN while a Jefe type explained to the youngster what an FM3 was. We stayed at Marie Celeste in SQ..previous post is right...good place. May our good luck fall well on you.

Thanks for the info. Did you cross with an FMT and did you stop to pick up the vehicle sticker ? I trust your new home is everything you wished for .... Take Care, CaboRon

Ron, we came in with FM3's. Got them at the Consulate in San Diego 2 weeks before we left..easily and treated graciously. Went in at 9 in the morning filled everything out, gave 'em our pics, bank statements etc. there an hour or so. Played around SD all day went to the consulate next morning and picked up our FM-3s Once we had them in our paws we drove down to TJ and had them stamped. We were back in LA by noon. No one said anything about a vehicle sticker....was about 8 in the morning when we crossed the border...not much open just cruised through onto the toll road.

No one stopped us until GN...they asked for our visas, sprayed us and we were on our way.

Have lurked on the board awhile. Read many different experiences, again we were lucky I guess.

Good luck!! I retired 1 and a half years ago and I am in Ensenada. I have always felt that the San Diego area has the best climate. I have been to Todo Santos and really enjoyed it.
