bajajudy - I thought about Photo Shopping the ant out of the pic but changed my mind. He creates a new focal point away from the center of the pic.

I have to admit to cheating though! The picture was taken in Cd Obregon, Sonora in my father-in-law's backyard. I guess I can expect 50 lashes with a wet noodle now.

Even so, I'm going to cheat again with this photo of a painting. Many will recognize the artist. I think he is a great artist.

Baja Bernie - 7-20-2007 at 05:38 PM

Thanks for the beauty................There is so much in Baja it just seems a waste to focus things that annoy us. That is why it took me three books to write a very brief chapter on the Under Belly of Baja--the ugliness is there but the beauty and fun part is so much better.

One plant with blooms of two different colors

Thank you for the beautiful pics all.Judy, is the pic of the yellow flower a hibiscus also? In your yard? Very lovely.. And who would a thunk such a spiney(sometimes painfull) plant like the "beloved cactus variety" could produce such delicate flowers? Yep Judy, I call it Mother Nature also.

The first picture in this thread, the flower that Judy correctly calls "Copa de Oro" in Spanish is Allamanda catilartica and known as the Golden Trumpet vine in English. It is not a Hibiscus.

bajajudy - 7-21-2007 at 09:10 AM

However, the second yellow flower is, in fact, a hibiscus.

mil gracias

I have been found out...........wonder if Doug will allow me a new name to hide my shame.

If a flower has beauty what matters the name?

PS A word of warning.......watch out Sallysouth will be amongst you all again and in very short order.

Sallysouth - 7-21-2007 at 10:52 AM

What Bernie is saying is that I have just been given the green light, so to speak, from my doc, and after a year and a half of surgeries and staples and tubes, I am now whole again and will be heading South in a few weeks! Think I will have to scout out Bajadock and anyone else in the Punta Banda area, just to say HI! Viva Baja!!!:D:D:D And yeah, Judy, the second yellow flower was the one I was refering to.Very exotic Hibiscus.!

This little guy is my favorite. 7 years ago I accidentaly uprooted him while camping outside of GN and brought him home...he looked dead for months, then sprang to life the next summer. Last year was his personal best with 13 blooms...here five at a time. He's about 2" across.

This thread is so sweet I can taste it. Of course Bob H's Yellow Rose is my favorite, although Ospry's Sun Rose is running a close second. I can't see a yellow rose without thinking of Don Jimmy and his pension for them, he would have loved this thread as he sure loved his flowers.

danaeb - 7-21-2007 at 03:24 PM

To the BCS gardeners: is there a vivero in the La Paz area that stocks native plants? I haven't had too much time yet to explore, but I'd like to find plants that are summer-hardy. I have the Roberts field guide and I'd love to try some of the low growing flowering desert shrubs, but I don't know where to find them.

Sallysouth - 7-21-2007 at 03:44 PM

What a beautiful thread this is! In the second photo, posted by Judy, I think that is calle the "bucktoothed kisser":tumble:

bajajudy - 7-21-2007 at 03:51 PM

Sally, I was wondering if anyone would ever even mention that flower.
It is from a Lomboy. They are the most delicate little flowers and only last one or two days.

bajajudy - 7-21-2007 at 04:28 PM

And since that was sooooooooooo much fun here are some more:
