Is anybody catching?

From the lack of fish reports of any kind am I to assume that cold water is still dominating the East Cape area?

cabo water temps

shows the most recent temps in your area of interest. Water in that region is still in the 70's until you get well offshore. Enter previous/next to see temp changes every 8 hours or so. There are times and areas where temps are not shown. I think that may be due to cloud cover during measurements. Not sure.

Alan, We jut got back from Los Barriles. The fishing and water was kinda hot and cold. One day we got a 54 lb Dorado a shaker Dorado and 2 stripe marlin. Fished a couple of days later and got one knock down all day. Few days later 34 lb Dorado and 2 marlin. Water temp ranged from 74 to 84 in the month we were there. On July 14 we fished the dorado shootout and water temp was 84 degrees and looked fishy. We landed 3 small YT's and a big striper.

I had seen that report on this and the BD forum but I am skeptical of reports from commercial enterprises. It's not that I don't believe the report. I am quite sure it is accurate but there is always the need to focus on the positive.

My boat is in La Paz and its a long run to the 88. I'm waiting for things to turn around a bit before I set up a trip back down there so I have much more confidence in reports from other anglers that don't have a commercial stake in their reports.

I do want to thank you for sharing that though.

Sounds like conditions are starting to stabilize a bit more than they were in June but it looks like patience is the name of the game still.

Actually, that East Cape report is right on. Fishing is somewhere between ok and marginal. There are some marlin to focus on but for the most part it has been tough. Most of the tuna I've seen are quite small and it's a fairly long run to find them.

Broke off a 50 lb dorado Sunday. Smoke's report is correct and could have been written today. 76 here on the beach. Tons of flags yesterday at Spa Buena Vista -- Marlin (stripe, blues, blacks) football tuna, bull dorados to 45 pounds. All my neighbors have been getting keeper dorado 10 to 15 miles off the beach. Just follow Terrafin every day.

I was out today in La Paz, about 15 miles straight out from Pichilingue (45 degrees mag.) and never saw water temps over 77 degrees F. Very little grass in the water and what is there is scattered in threads, rather than clumps. We got one so-so dorado on lures, saw one sleeping marlin and had another in the spread but he backed off. The chatter on the pangarero channel was not encouraging, although I did hear of one good marlin caught.

Three days ago in the same area the water temp was 78, and we had three nice dorado. A 60' battlewagon said they had three marlin hookups. The SST charts show cool water all over the area and the fishing reports show reflect that. The bait guys are doing better than me, but they have to catch the first one to get the school excited and that has been tough for many boats. A lot of boats are focusing on inshore species.
