RV Camps on Hwy 1

Do RV campgrounds generally allow you to just park your truck and sleep in the front seat? Also, do most have showers and bathrooms? If so, do you have any contact information on parks such as this between El Rosario and Todos Santos? :?:

CaboRon...can you give some idea as to where you may stop? Also are you asking for free spots? Most will have a discount for non-hookup, but few are free.

Thanks Al, Don't need free, just reasonable. I sometimes think it might make for better security to not leave the truck at night. A good shower and bath is important. As to stops , probably every two or three hundred miles after a first night at Baja Cactus. I am going to have to chart that out and will post more info later. Thanks again, Ron

If you're coming south from SY in the afternoon and want a place to spend the noche, let me know. There's a camp spot here, where I live, with power and you and yours can use my house for showers etc.

Thank you Dennis, that is very gracious of you, and if I am delayed by customs it might very well be an option. I'll have to google earth your location, not quite sure where it is.

Ron, it IS humanly possible to make it from El Rosario to La Paz before or by dark in one full day's drive...I know, I've done it many times! ( EVERY TIME I think might be more accurate!) :rolleyes:

Buy a good guide book and then you will have "some" information no matter where you wind up.

Judy's right...I know AAA has one of the Baja Peninsula. Judy might have other recommendations since she's in the book business.

the furthest you'll go the first day will be el rosario...
plan another stop before el rosario if it gets too late...
and it can FAST
Camalu is OK $25 good parking

next day you'll make mulege by 3-4pm if you don't encounter any problems and start at 5AM...

$10 plalpa sleep in your car with COLD shower and clean toilet (bring towel)
$25 gets you a room ON the beach w COLD shower and indoor tiolet
(easier at night when you HAVE to go :lol

come over... I'm next door... for a cold one...

it's another 2 hours to loreto...
but you'll be tired at mulege...
i always am

la paz is an easy 6 hours in daylight from mulege

Although, hopeing this is the last time I will make this drive, I think I'll just poke along with many stops for picture taking and just enjoying what looks like some spectacular scenery.
Who knows, maybe I'll want to give it a shot.

I SWORE my first was going to be the ONLY time I made that drive....many, many, many times ago! :lol:

I've done it alone more times than with anyone! Digital camera with a large memory chip is a good thing to have on the front seat with you!

Other options for overnight camping;

El Pabellon just north of San Quinton - showers and toilets on the beach.
Rancho St Inez in Catavinia - toilet and sometimes shower in the desert.
The place by the restaurant just north of GN - toilets, showers and wifi.
El Padrito or Ignacio Springs in San Ignacio - showers, toilets & yurts at the Springs.
Bob's place just south of Mulege.
Manfred's in Cuidad Const - showers, toilet, pool, wifi.

These are all places I have stayed, except Bob's. That's because my casita is in Mulege. Bob, are you open yet?
Ron, it sounds like you will not have to stay in all of these if you are moving at a good pace. If you are dawdling, they are all good for your purposes. At least you now know some good options so you can plan according to where the sun is (isn't). I wasn't aware that there are showers/toilets available at Rancho Santa Inez. I have only dry camped there. They do have a small motel and restaurant though.

remember now it stays light till almost 9PM
from now on it get darker earlier and your speed and safety are drasticly reduced in the dark...

we make it to guerrero negro before dark if we don't import anything and stay at the first hotel on the right in town

Guard watches all night...your truck and stuff will be safe

Another vote for Rancho Santa Inez. Didn't know of the showers, that's good news. We like to camp there, dry camp, because of the spectacular scenery (it is in the Catavina area), worth the stop. Usually have the place to yourself. There is a small restaurant and friendly owners also.

The restaurant and RV camp north of GN mentioned is Mario's, you can spot it by the huge Palapa restaurant. Have not stayed there but the scallops (Mano de Leon) are worth the stop!

Take you time as all of these places mentioned are worth stopping at.

And Bob and Susan, what a cool lighthouse and adjoining casitas. I suppose when they are available you will have a reservation link ? Do you invision these as vacation or long term rentals ? :bounce:

And no, I am not excited at all .... and what they say about moving your home being the second most stressful thing in your life is true .... and moving to another country :lol:
