"Baja Nomad" stickers (also in La Paz)

These are currently available in three places:

1. The Tienda here: http://tienda.bajanomad.com

2. The Baja Cactus Motel in El Rosario ($2 each).

3. Las Tres Virgenes Restaurant in La Paz ($2 each).

I've had a few mentions to me about the shipping charges in the Tienda. The Tienda has a "flat rate" shipping charge of $7.95 for any orders placed, regardless of how many items are ordered, what they are, or how much they weigh.

The price of the stickers in the Tienda is purposely set at a figure that is as low as possible (really, it's the wholesale price: $.92) in order to encourage demand of more than just one per person - and to somewhat overcome the issue pertaining to the 7.95 shipping rate in case that's all someone wants - the sticker(s).

When the 2007 Baja Calendars were available, I did create a separate link to buy a single one - but there were some challenges involved on the back end of things making it somewhat more hassle than anything in doing so.

I'm pondering options to make it easier (and more inexpensive) to obtain just one of the stickers. That's one of the reasons they are available at the Baja Cactus Motel front office - to make it easy for Nomads traveling the highway to obtain one fairly inexpensively (again, US$2).

Let me give it thought about a way that would accomplish the above, and would be easy for me to be able to fulfill.

And let me know your thoughts via response to this thread or u2u. I've thought of one alternative, but will think it through just a little longer.

Thanks to those of you that have already ordered from the store. If it's been a continental U.S. address, your order for stickers-only has gone out USPS Priority Mail thus far - and if you don't already have them, you will soon.

Multi- level marketing. Might be more hassle than it's worth. Perhaps the drug lords are in need of extra change now that the new administration has stopped the flow of their regular product.

We're heading to Bahia Asuncion on August 17th and will gas up around 9a.m. at the station in El Rosario and then get our stickers from BajaCactus.

My amigo stopped at the Baja Cactus Motel in El Rosario this afternoon (7/29) to purchase a few bumper stickers for me and called when he arrived in Mulege. Anyway he said they had no idea what he was talking about and they wanted him to try over at Mama Espinso's restaurant! He said they did have tee shirts but no stickers. What's the story? Is there a special password we need to use? LOL

Antonio confirms that they are available at the front desk, but that he has not yet fully briefed all the staff members about the details of the new item. There are 16 employees that need to be given the information - and apparently the person your amigo spoke to was one of those that had not yet received this information.

I understand the situation he is in, and appreciate Antonio's effort to make these available. It shouldn't be a priority for him, and is more a favor for me to do this. Again, something that I appreciate.

Stickers do fly in Mexico...

Last year I left several ('got baja?' stickers) at the Baja Cactus front desk for Baja travelers to take if they wanted one... They were free, but next time I was in El Rosario they seemed to be on all the local vehicles and not just taken by Baja Cactus clients! At La Lobera, there was one on the clip board of the guy showing us the abalone tanks! LOL!!

The reason I am stating this, is if the Nomad stickers were 'out' where they could be seen, they would 'fly' away... Perhaps if one could be displayed with US$2 maked on it, and the rest were locked in the hotel safe...???

As mentioned, I trust that this situation has changed.

Also, am interested if there's anyone here I know that will be traveling soon from/through San Diego to La Paz? I will be sending a few stickers down there, and if there's a "ride-along" situation, I would be interested in knowing that option. Otherwise, they'll be going DHL here soon.

I've been using USPS Priority for just about everything domestic right now, but in the past only recall DHL being reliable for La Paz.

I've even got the flat-rate envelopes already that I could use.

DHL is fast, reliable and expensive. Check out USPS Priority Mail International, Flat Rate Envelope; up to 4 lbs for US$9.00; I've used it a couple times to La Paz and it has worked. See:

flat rate priority is sometimes higher than regular priorty

flat rate is for heavy papers
shipping would be WAY less if shipped regular priorty rate

also priority mail is ALL worked by hand
use a #10 (the long legal one) whenever possible and a regular first class stamp 41 cents
NEVER use a #6 (small envelope)
they get jambed in the machines

these letters get sorted by high-speed machines (12 letters a second) and move much faster thru the system

NEVER apply the +4 to the zip code as this is an internal processing number and can change without notice and may delay the mail piece

Always use the USPS in the states as you have some protection of privacy but not much
private carriers have NO such enforced rules
that's why drug dealers use EXPRESS MAIL :lol:

For U.S. domestic USPS Priority Mail service, the boxes are generally cheaper with standard Priority - not flat rate. However, the flat-rate envelopes are the opposite - they are equal to the lowest cost for standard Priority envelopes. Again, this is for domestic deliveries.

if you are moving something important to a foreign country use REGISTERED MAIL!!!
slow but secure.

if you need something faster to a foreign country use EXPRESS MAIL!!!
the time will still be up to 10 days to deliver no matter what the website says...customs ALWAYS gets involved

most people THINK because the Postal Service says PRIORTY SERVICE it get there faster :lol:

first-class mail is ALWAYS the FASTEST delivery behind EXPRESS MAIL

remember there was no flat rate priority to mexico until this last rate change

the old priority was called GLOBAL PRIORITY

that worked well and was ALOT cheaper than EXPRESS MAIL

remember when mail leaves the custody of the US Postal Service ANYTHING can happen :biggrin:

the trick to moving mail to another country is to get a FAST service so there isn't time for someone to "take a second look" at the item

the postal service in the USA is NOT there to "make money" :light:

hard as this is to believe...
they are only there to provide a "cheap" way for companies to get their information and product to the general public

the days of "letters to grandma" are completely GONE

"christmas cards" almost GONE

mail flies on "fedex" planes...
that's what keeps "THEM" in business
the postal service "pays" for the jet fuel

everyday "fedex" "UPS" and other companies drop pallets of THEIR parcels at local post offices for the post office to deliver FOR THEM...
the post office charges them ~$1 each AMAZING!!!

several years ago when chrysler had money troubles the USPS bought ALL chrysler cars
ALOT of money!!!

Ford had problems...same thing
now GM

special favors went to DELL when they had trouble delivering their "chineese" computers...
Fedex delivered them to the local PO for customer to "come-on-in" and get them...GEE lets make the lines LONGER for us the public to accomadate DELL

it is...but NO PO Box deliveries are accepted by Fedex or UPS

there ARE boxes that come on these drop-shipments that go to PO Boxes...

the UPS and Fedex boxes delivered by the post office are from everywhere too...not just from the "BIG DOG" companies

isn't the post office interesting???? :lol:

people should really see the computer machines that sort letters at 12 letters a second...then put them in order for the next-day delivery...AMAZING!!!

oh yea no one can visit anymore...PO personall are on "HIGH" alert :lol:
