Banjercito Vehicle Permits

CaboRon - 7-24-2007 at 08:33 PM

There is some confusion here about the Tempory Vehicle Import Stickers issued through Banjercito. :?: Please bear with me as I have tried to do a search on this with no luck .... Do you need this sticker if you plan on keeping your car in BCS ? Or, is this only a mainland requirement ? I know I must maintain current US tags .... do I also need this vehicle sticker on the windshield ? :?: I do appreciate any clarification. Thanks CaboRon

For the mainland.

Ron, as long as you're here on an FMT or an FM3, and your car has current tags, you're legal down here. Once you decide you love it here & have no desire to move back North, then you can import your vehicle here in La Paz. (((I know a lot of people think you have to take it back to TJ to import, but I finally imported mine here in La Paz...legally & w/o mordita or propina...last October.;) )))

That's a relief...........one less bit of paperwork to comply with. Thanks, CaboRon :tumble:

No TIP needed if you leave your car in BCS, huh?

I thought I remember reading post a few years back where police in the Cabo area (not sure which branch) were raiding storage areas and impounding vehicles that were not temporarily or permanently imported and the owners were back in the States?

Yeah, I know the whole free zone thing but that is what I seem to recall.

Hook ...........

Isn't that the nature of Mexico? A constitutionally mandated regulation in one town is an unheard of curiosity in the next town just fifty miles down the road.
Does anybody really know what's going to happen next or where? If anybody thinks they have it down, just keep an eye on these boards for the inconsistancys.

Curiouser and Curiouser

The implication here is that if you are in BCS with your car it will not be a problem. Only if you leave the country and your car behind. :wow: CaboRon

I belive that to leave ANYTHING behind, you must have an FM3.

bajalou - 7-25-2007 at 06:43 AM

If you have the TIP, and a FM2 or 3, the vehicle is legal in ALL of Mexico for as long as your FM2 or 3 is legal, including renewals. It then does not have to have current US registration.

osoflojo - 7-25-2007 at 07:07 AM

Over the years myself and numerous friends have left cars in Cabo for trips back to the US with no issues at all. Ever.

Well, just to add to the confusion, many, many boats in the marinas have a TIP, but are owned by folks who come down on a FMT periodically during the year. Possibly the marina is "in custody". Then again, there are many boats anchored on moorings that are used periodically.

JZ - 7-25-2007 at 09:26 AM

I'd say the majority of boat owners with TIP's are only here on an FMT.

bajalou - 7-25-2007 at 10:08 AM

Believe the TIP's for boats and autos are handled differently. For boats I've heard they are for a specific period of time - 10 years? For Autos, they show a expiration date but it is the date your FM 2-3-T expires. If you renew the FM 2-3, the TIP remains valid.

JZ - 7-25-2007 at 03:04 PM

That's correct. Boat TIPs are for 10 years and have no relationship to the FM3,2.

Isnt it curious..............

.............how every post about official policy in Mexico becomes a Hydra ??????

Maybe THAT is why so many Mexicans want to leave their country.

JZ - 7-25-2007 at 03:59 PM

Yeah, and if you do it long enough you'll know more about Mexican policy than a lot of the Mexican officials. It's amazing that 1/2 time time some Mexican official will tell you you don't need a visa for travel to someplace that you clearly do!
