Won't be able to get there Sunday.... bummer. My only chance will be Friday. I'll be down south during the Del Mar show. As impossible as it sounds I might have enough fishing stuff. What am I saying? Nah, never.

4Baja, you talking about the one at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, right?

David K - 3-2-2004 at 07:47 AM

4Baja lives in Morro Bay, so he probably is going to the Long Beach show that starts tomorrow. Del Mar starts the 17th... I will be there one of the days... Usually that's when I renew by Discover Baja membership...

Usually see Gene Kira and Graham Mackintosh there. Hey Whistler, you going to Del Mar, too or just Long Beach?

4baja - 3-2-2004 at 07:53 AM

i'll be there on sunday in long beach, i go on sunday because thats the day they start to drop prices low. i'm allso in the market for a new boat so i may bust a deal if they give me the right numbers.

Boat shopping

Casa P. D. y C. - 3-2-2004 at 11:23 AM

Stevo,
Read your post regarding being in the market for a new boat. I've had the pleasure of purchasing 7 boats from the Fred Hall show in the past.
Bayliner, Zodiac, Hunter Sailboat, Seaswirl, Boston Whaler, Robalo, and lastly back to Boston Whaler. All in that order. Our plan of attack was to attend the show in the opening days, secure our interest with the salesperson, thus giving us the upperhand in negotiations and free passes for the following day(s). Just like buying a car, you have to walk away a few times cause their numbers are never right on the first attempt. We too usually sealed the deals on Sun., got the prices in our ballpark as well as many extras thrown in (after several days of negotiations) But since you are traveling to the show from such a long distance that might not work for you. I wish you luck in busting a deal in one day.
P.S. See you on Sunday, and in Bahia over Spring Break!

Steve, what are you looking at? I'm going to go bigger next year for sure(w/two rugrats on the way what better excuse?). I'm going to stay w/aluminum because I love being able to run it up on the beach and not worry. Maybe a Klamath.

4baja - 3-4-2004 at 06:52 AM

hey frank, i'm looking in the 22 foot range and for sure a center consol. i'm currently looking at bosten whaler, grady whites and makos. i want to buy new but will probably buy used because there usually all set up with electronics. if you show up at the fred hall show i'll be in curts big ford truck not my toyota, bigger truck in case one of us buys a boat:coolup:

Boat buys at Shows

Big Al - 3-4-2004 at 04:20 PM

I just bought a Klamath myself. I became pretty chummy with the dealer and this is what he told me. He said the boat shows are not the best time to buy a boat. The reason is the dealers all get a ton of new boats in for the shows. The manufacturers supply the boats to the dealers at no cost for six months to make sure they have enough for the shows. They really get interested in moving them after six months because that is when the dealers have to start making interest payments on their inventory.

I am not saying you can't get a good deal at the shows, but when an interest payment is coming due they get more excited about your offer.
