New Plan May Alleviate Traffic At Border Crossings

SAN DIEGO -- City officials on both sides of the border met Friday to discuss plans to add more border crossings, NBC 7/39 reported.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Tijuana's mayor and officials from San Diego Association of Governments were all involved in the talks. Sanders said the group is considering adding two more crossings at the Otay Mesa port of entry.

One of those would be a toll crossing just for commercial vehicles. Sanders said the existing setup takes too much time for people to get from one side of the border to the other. Sanders said the toll would be used to help pay for the additional crossing.

The port of entry at San Ysidro is set to add an additional 60 gates, according to Sanders. That is due to be completed by 2013.

What great news if it's at all true but, arn't these federal decisions to be made?

I agree Dennis. But hey Sanders has to find any place possible to squeeze cash into the huge hole that is the Citys debt. He also has to find creative ways to pay for lets say the newly established GAY pride month of July that tax payers get to fund for whatever is needed to police and support associated activities.
Interesting though, there is no Police pride month, or Firefighters month, or Trash collectors month etc.
Sanders won't hesitate to step out of bounds to collect tolls from travelers crossing the border until he gets caught and then they'll spend millions to study why he did it for years to come.
I love my City and neighborhood, but the politicos have all got to go!!!

Just what I was thinking, Dennis. You gotta have DHS employees involved at any new lanes that open.

It's window dressing..........

Dennis...I don't know your answer....I will pay a toll...the wait time for a MotorHome is at least 2-3 gallons of gas.

Gadget..............

Gay pride month? Jeezo........ I missed that one. The poodles in Hillcrest must be enjoying this. Is Sanders gay? I saw him on the news in the gay pride parade, dripping with rainbow paraphernalia. What a pandering politico.

Probably wouldn't help if everybody was paying a toll, Al. It would just make things slower. Anyway, Sanders would be concerned with a toll entering Mexico. It won't happen, at least not to please the mayor of San Diego.

I understand your point tho.

Dennis, I am lost on this subject....is this thread about border crossing or queers? I am a gay person...I am not queer. I do not dislike queers...slept with one many years knowing she went both ways...understand their fight...also understand what we as a normal society will tolerate. This is a "want it now society" and Baja is no different...I dislike having to pay for queer pride...the smallest contingent and least important of the many suffering humans.

I am thankful my wife and I have the Sentri Pass. It is amazing the amount of traffic crossing Tijuana at noon time or for that matter any time. New gates need to be added. It is somewhat surprising that violence related to long lines have not erupted more often.

There was a proposal not too long ago, about just "doubling up" the inspections at San Ysidro, by taking them two at a time which is an obvious solution. There would be two inspectors at the booths doing two cars simultaneously. No construction for additional booths needed - just hire additional inspectors and dogs. They could even do the easy ones by strolling down the lines of cars and putting some type of flag on it so no need to actually stop at the booth. Any improvement of course, would be a good thing, but crossing at Otay wouldn't help me out.
