Types of mangos in BCS>

Anybody familiar with the names of the different types of mangos available here in Loreto. On Google there are 350 different varieties without pics, so hard to determine what we have here. I see the round ones with green, red and sometimes yellowish tint, the long, big, kidney shaped ones, mainly green and sometimes with a little reddish tint, and the small canary yellow ones,( my neighbor's tree ) which are good but a b-tch to clean. Great in smoothies!!. The large kidney shaped ones are great for drying.
I also see lots of fruit that fell of the trees here,just laying in the streets and dirt without anyone showing any interest in them. Maybe, no good ?

Van, the really big ones the Mexicans call Ken. They are probably Hadens. Some small round ones they call Manzana (they taste like apples) and the long green ones are, of course, called Machettes. I read an article about an old man in India who has sucessfully grafted all 1000 varieties of mango onto one gimungous mango tree. That's too many to name and if they had names I wouldn't want to have the job of remembering which is which.

I know where all my favorites are that could be hangin' close to the sides of the streets (fair prey I would think). Almost all my snowbird gringo neighbors are gone now and I pick their good mangos early, bag em til the're ripe (about 3 days).

As I was coming back from the beach a few minutes ago, I saw a large army truck parked here in the colonia, and the soldiers were just scrambling out. Being the curious guy that I am, I slowed to see what was going on.....they were picking mangos. Guess one of my neighbors had an excess and let them have all they wanted. Pretty cool.

We have three different varieties on our property. Two were here when we bought the lot. The other one came up in the back of our house where the workers used to have lunch in the shade.
We have the big ones which are ready in august...cant wait!
We have a smaller one that tastes smokey to me...it is over
The volunteer didnt produce any fruit this year but it comes in between the other two and someone told me it was champagne.
None of the snowbirds even know about mangos and they are my favorite fruit in the world.
They freeze really well for smoothies.

If anyone needs instructions on how to cut them. Here you go:

Lay the mango in the palm of your hand and slice longways horizontal to you hand as close to the seed as you can. You will half almost half a mango. Use your knife to score that half longways and sideways. Pop the skin inward and voila..you will have cubed mango...no strings...no dental floss needed.
Turn it over and do the same thing to the other half. You can peal the extra and eat it but it will have strings. I usually just squeeze the juice out into the cubes
And they freezed perfectly.

this is just one day's drop in my yard before hurricane John -- now, not so much. There's enough here for a real good resin rash and the mango tango two step if you eat em all up.

Yes it probably should be mentioned that some people have a allergic reaction to the peal of the mango. Can include swollen lips(always attractive...hey maybe one could save on botox jejeje, rashes, swollen eyes and splits in the skin on your hands.

The Mangoes I buy at the CCC in La Paz have the large green to yellow and red they call them Tomaki right now 7pesos a kilo sometimes as low as 5 pesos a kilo.

I can't figure out what you are describing...can you make a video and put it on YouTube?:lol::lol::lol:

I usually just stand it up and slice down...guessing where the seed might be...I love standing over the sink gnawing on the seed!

The instructions were for freezing them. Also salads, pies, serving on a plate for other people.

I think the best way to eat a mango out of hand is to be standing waist deep in a body of water...sea of cortez...ocean...lake...gulf of mexico...mar de mediterraneo! It just has to be a juicy mango...warm water and warm air temp.

the very yellow, more oblong ones are manilas. Much sweeter than the others and my favorite. A while ago I did a Mango story on our blog:

I so wish I was there to eat the mango's that are on our tree!!! (we are paying $1.50-2.00 a mango here and they taste nothing like the ones I've had in Mexico)
Got a picture of Casa Loma last week and the tree was loaded and tons wasting on the
ground:(:( Have some for me!!!!!
