Any anyone recommend a place with AC in La Ventana? We'll be staying 4 nights.

thanks

Please check Palapas Ventana or Mr Bill's. Both are considered to be the better locations.

Also check out Casa Verde.
It's as close as you can get to the beach.
It's only a few years old and owned/run by folks from Washington.

Any reviews or opinions on Baja Joe's?

They list rooms for two from $40-$60/night with AC. Price is a consideration.

Joes is fine. A bit older but clean and homey.
Especially this time of year when the younger partying types of windsurfers and kiters are not there.
I believe they have a few options on lodging.
They can also arrange a fishing trip or boat tour from La Ventana or Los Muertos.
Make certain to try the El Rincon Restaurant down the road and the chicken mole or american breakfasts at the place across from the big campground entrance.
Ask about the snorkeling at the old Punta Arenas Resort. It's very kid friendly with tons of shells on the beach.

Diver...you forgot to tell him about the central kitchen area where they can prepare their own meals....great this time of year.
I stayed in a casita by near the water...but darn if I can remember an air conditioner....for sure I didn't need one. Great place even if it is older.

All of the above are absolutely terrific. All on the beach. And yes Joe's has lower prices, ranging $40 and up, options and the communal kitchen. Joe's and Casa Verde are located in the basin of the bay, if you will, closer to the road to Los Plannes and La Paz. Casa Verde is pricey for its rooms I recall $80/night for a double bed.

So if you want to be closer to the town of la Ventana Joe's or Verde would be great, if you prefer to be farther out toward el Sargento and closer to the remote northern beaches and the island the previously mentioned places would be great. Bill's is practically the most sophisticated and Palapas Ventana has casitas though not on the water, they line the arroyo up and is a dive and fishing destination as well. If you recall the posting I made about the recent spear fishing record of a 76 lb rooster fish that was done by the owner of Palapas Ventana, Tim.

From the basin of the bay one can walk up the beaches of Los Plannes to la bufadora. The others are just up the road toward el sargento and farther out.

And there you go, the ultimate argument which fills each and every day in Bahia La Ventana, qual es mejor El Sargento o La Ventana. Puedo continuar para siempre... pero no se perdir las hamburguesas de Los Plannes.

Gnukid, I did not see that post about Tim's record rooster. We stay at his place and dove with him one day last year but we're trying to keep our expenses down which is why we're looking for an alternative. His website says rooms are $77.50 per person.

We'll be going spearfishing as well.

I think you get what you pay for. I personally would prefer to camp anywhere instead of be in a hotel, you need nothing or splurge for the campground $6/day/group (if its open) but if you compare the $80 dollar rooms to the $40 rooms the upper end seems absolutely worth it. Panga will cost you a few hundred per day.

Here's Tim's Rooster
