Yes!! after a first unsuccessful attempt, we finally found it!
Leaving san diego sat morning @ 5am, drove to Tecate crossing, went through the cloudy windy plateau to finally drop in blue-sky desert. Didn't dare
to try the lake bed after so much rain,(which ended up being a wise decision, we found out later). Got our way south towards canyon guadalupe and
found our way thru a very intricate networks of dirt roads and washes. Always looking west, we could guess this was the main wash of El Carrizo.
Parked and hiked across a big alluvion fan where past flash flood left hundreds of palm logs laying on boulders. looking @ the weathering on these
logs, tlooks like they've been there for a few hundred years at least. 30 minutes in hiking, the first living palm tree in view,.. water not too
far. 100 yards later, we found the course of beautiful clear stream, and several swamps, something I have rarely seen in 8 years of palm canyon
exploring.. very interesting environment.
3 hours up canyon, we find 3 major groves, one on the side of the mountains, fed by springs, another @ the convergence of two canyons and another
upstream in the main canyon. The latter ended up being a very interesting finding: hot springs!!! and a tub dug in the sand, wide enough to fit 4-5
people in chest high murky water under palms, we're ecstatic!! Looks like most of the water comes out from this springs, as very little water was
found upstream from that point.
Another big cold water pool with a cool slide and a huge boulder(perfect diving board) was found a few yards from there.
Stayed til sunday evening and hiked back, on the way back, we found cool petroglyphs, and wild burros waiting by our car, their body language was
very explicit: they were peeed off we stepped in their territory, standing tall and braying loudly... funny show to close the trip!!!
